Not sure why, but Win 8.1 won't let me post so this is a few days late. I got stuck on strict bed rest right after Thanksgiving but things kept progressing so on Jan 2nd I was wheeled straight from my MFM's office to the hospital because I was down to 0.9 cm cervical thicknessand was already dilated to 2 cm. That was at 24 weeks and 1 day. We were aiming first for 26 weeks.. And we made it! Then for 28 still hoping for 30 - 32. On Friday the 17th, I started finding pink in my discharge and it kept getting slightly worse all day. She had avoided checking my cervix since they'd gotten me into a hospital bed. On Saturday morning she used a speculum and thought I was around 3 -4 cm dilated so she was going to move me to taking one step to a portable commode to use the restroom. Fifteen minutes later she couldn't ignore her gut feeling that it was actually worse so she came back to my room to do a cervical check. I was 5 - 6 cm dilated and she could feel twin A's feet. That decided it. Off to the OR I went. Two hours after that decision I was in recovery and my husband was up in the NICU with two beautiful little girls. The whole two and a half weeks in the hospital i had almost no significant contractions, my cervix just kept progressing. There was nothing more we could have done to keep them in.
Twin B was born first at 9:59 am weighing exactly 2 lbs and measuring 13.5 inches. Her name is Olivia Rose.
Twin A was born second at 10 am weighing 2 lb and 2 oz and measuring 14 inches. Her name is Alexandria Elizabeth.
They had an amazing first 24 hours and then scared us a little. Olivia is already back to room air with just CPAP (think i have that typed correctly). Alexandria is still intubated but they expect her to be back to just CPAP in the next few days. They are doing great and despite the earliness of it, my breast milk is coming in nicely. I was able to get 40 ml combined between both breasts this morning at mu first pumping.
On the c-Section front, ouch! I am healing well but Percocet is definitely my friend. I would prefer a vaginal birth any day of the week. ~laugh~
I have been following the board closely this past two months, just didn't have the energy to switch to my mobile phone to respond. Thank you all for being here because even though I couldn't respond, knowing i wasn't alone in these struggles meant a lot to me
