Dairy and soy free moms. I need food ideas

I could use some help. I am struggling to find enough healthy foods that I enjoy eating that are dairy and soy free and that are pretty easy (my high needs girl is still crazy needy) to make. I mostly need help with breakfast, lunch and snacks. I do okay with dinner as my husband is around and makes sure to take good care of me. I am very bored with my daytime options and just spent the night googling ideas, but honestly most looked hard to pull off with my girl attached to me all day.

I really struggle to keep weight on from about 6+ months when breastfeeding. I guess it's a combo of that I make chunky babies and I am pretty small framed. I am down to 102 lbs and I was 104 before getting pregnant, so not a huge loss yet but I am afraid it's going to keep dropping. I really struggled with my boys and I was able to mostly eat what I wanted to with them. I am eating, I actually eat a lot but I think I just need some better food as well.

  • I guess I should add that I am also tomato free. Plus I think I just discovered peanut free. :( My poor girl. I really hope she outgrows all this.

  • In the morning I have a smoothie, frozen fruit banana, almond milk, whatever else I have around. Lunch is normally left overs from dinner or salad. Snacks I make a sort of granola bar, tortilla chips and guacamole. Let me think some more.

  • Paleo diets follow most of this... a good website is paleomg.com.... good luck
  • For breakfast I eat coconut milk yogurt (So Delicious has a Greek style chocolate flavor that is really good) and fruit or leftovers from dinner. Lunch I eat pasta with "pesto" (spinach, olive oil, walnuts, garlic) and tomatoes, veggie sandwiches with hummus and avocado. (I usually prep these en masse with L in the Ergo or playing at my feet) I really like Amy's Kitchen bean and veggie burritos or bean tamale meal for really fast/no prep if I'm at ahome - but they are probably not tomato free. Snacks are mostly Lara or Kind bars and apples.

@mandyrator79 how did you discover the tomato and peanut issues? Logan has shown no sign of growing out of his intolerances yet either.

  • If you have a Trader Joe's around they have some Organic par baked rolls that don't contain soy or dairy.  When I was eating wheat but no dairy or soy I would make a sandwich on those for lunch and eat it with some tortilla chips and fruit.  I would put ham and a bunch of spinach on the sandwich.

DD is still having issues so we aren't doing dairy, soy, egg, wheat, corn, or nuts.  It's really hard to find things to eat!

Thank you ladies!! I really really appreciate all the suggestions, and I will check out all the links for more ideas. It's so hard as I am starving all the time when I am breastfeeding, but yet I feel like my choices are so limited now. I am going on a major food shopping spree tomorrow to add some new foods in the mix.

@kmc217 at her six month check up her Dr suggested cutting tomatoes for her cradle cap for 1-2 weeks to see if it helped. I did not see any difference so I had a tomato again and she went crazy with the screaming like her colic days. I felt so bad. :( It seems like when I cut a food that bothers her and then eat it again it bothers her way more after having a break from it. I had no idea tomatoes were an issue before that. The peanuts I figured out this week after having peanut butter, it's the only thing I could see her having a reaction to that I had eaten recently. she even had a tiny bit of blood in her stool just like she gets from dairy. in general I have not been eating many things with peanuts, but decided peanut butter would be a good option for now. I guess I should retest it, but I really think it was the peanut butter. Her Dr and I both feel that her lingering cradle cap (it drives her crazy with how itchy it gets) is probably from something I am eating still. I do have an appointment with a pediatric dermatologist next week, so maybe she'll have some more ideas too. we have just tried every trick there is and nothing makes it go away. it keeps flaring up really bad on and off.

@Married071709 I am sorry you're having so many issues, that is so much to cut out. I am thinking I need to try cutting wheat, eggs and corn one by one. I really think something I am eating still bothers her some just not as bad as dairy and soy.

  • @mandyrator79 how frustrating with the cradle cap. I also still have lingering suspicions that something i am eating is still bothering logan. i can't fathom having to cut out wheat, seriously the thought makes me want to cry. i am a bread-aholic though and have found some seriously good milk/soy free choices at our local bakery. it takes so long for him to clear a food that bothers him i don't even know where to start with eliminating more though and the GI didn't seem to think that was necessary. can you remind me what you used to clear her reflux? did you do it with pedi support? we have tried unsuccessfully to wean omeprazole twice and i'm wondering if what you did would help. i even tried giving him alimentum a couple nights when something was really bothering him and i couldn't get him to swallow it at all (even mixed 3:1 BM to formula).

  • @kmc217 I know the idea of cutting more food is depressing. but it's still worth it to me too keep breastfeeding her. I was actually reading an article last night where a mother said that after she finally found everything that was bothering her baby and cut it out of her diet, her pedi said it was a good thing she did not listen to his advice and ff as there would not have been one her baby could even take and tolerate very well.

I am eating Udi's gluten free bread as it is dairy and soy free. it tastes really good toasted.

I gave Nadia Hylands Nat Phos 6x 5 times a day for four days, and then about a month later I did three more days when it seemed to be coming back and she's not had reflux since. and she was really bad before I gave it to her. I did discuss it with her pedi, and while he had not heard of it he said it was okay. When her reflux was bad she had all the classic signs like, arching her back, spitting up more often, choking while nursing and lots of mucus etc. even now on a bad day where I can tell something is off for her she shows no sign of reflux.
