Can movement be one-sided?

So, I've been feeling what I thought was movement for about a week now. (Note: I'm a FTMer and I can't be 100% sure it is actually movement.) But the past few days, it seems like I only feel it on my right side or 99% of the time on my right side. It's not all the way over -- it's clearly still in my uterus but its definitely not centered.

Now of course, I'm paranoid that this my placenta ripping out, or a tumor or some other dreadful horrible thing.

Am I crazy? Is it normal for baby to favor one side? Is this just a massive poop brewing that I didn't realize? It doesn't hurt, although sometimes it is a bit uncomfortable. I'm also getting an occasional sensation of someone punching the top of my cervix -- which I assume is the baby punching my cervix.

  • Yup. Baby can be diagonal. Mine's feet have been on my lower left side through two USs.

  • I've noticed movement either in the middle or on my right side. Never really on my left.

  • My baby usually prefers the left side so far.  When I lay on my back to try the doppler I can usually see that it lumps out a little more on that side, and I feel most of her movement on that side, though she does occasionally switch to the right side.  Totally normal!

  • Thanks so much ladies! Very reassuring ... and now I have one less silly question to call my doctor with.  :)

  • My belly is just now at 18 weeks not looking lopsided. He still prefers my right side though. I've been told it's totally normal.
  • Mine prefers the left side.  Yesterday at my a/s, she said that his feet were down and he's breach, which would explain the low kicks on the left.  I know he's got tons of time to move and not be breach, both of my others were the entire pregnancy.  Fun stuff.

  • I've read that the uterus can be mostly restricted to one side or the other before it starts taking over the world. Mines definitely midline and to the right. I feel lots of movement right at the base centrally and then slightly right as it moves upwards.
  • I've only felt kicking on the right side.  I think it's pretty normal at this point.

  • it can be one-sided

I'm not new. I just hate The Bump.

  • Agreed, my baby favors my right side about 75% of the time. Though today he's kicking my cervix as well!
  • My baby definitely sticks to my right side. I never feel him move any further left than my belly button. In my ultrasound he was feet down on my right side. Its so funny that hr never moves far from there. I wouldn't worry, I'd say its normal.

  • It's legit. My baby boy prefers to beat me up on the left side versus the right.
