Lets Talk Breast!!!

Hey Y'all,
I'm planing on breastfeeding. (I breast feed with my 2 oldest) With my 2 year old, I was leaking a little (starting at 35ish weeks) WIth my 1 year old, I din't leak until the night before my c-section!!
Well, this baby #3, I started leaking EARLY in my pregnancy. The past week or so, i have to change top/bars about 2-3 times a day. I know each pregnancy is diff. & breastfeeding can become easyer with each child. But i didn't know that i would be leaking this much.
My question is...Is there any mothers out there who started pumping before the baby was born??
Also, what are some really good breast pumps?? (We have movied & me nor my husband know where we put our pump at???)
Thanks gor the help :)

  • I would not pump before you have the baby.
    Madela is an awesome brand.

  • I agree with pp. Don't pump before you have the baby. Pumping can stimulate your nipples and what not and can start or help start contractions.

As far as a pump goes, contact your insurance and see if theyll cover a new one. Most insurance companies will cover pumps now. And I've heard great things about madela
  • Why would you pump before the baby gets here? Get the breast pads and hang in there. We are almost on the finish line.
  • Do not pump before baby gets here.... do not...

    I agree with breast pads.

  • I feel like pumping before baby gets here, aside from PP's remarks about contractions etc, may also affect your colostrum - which is something I definitely want my baby to get.
Breast pads, and hang in there.

  • Don't pump now - as others have said it can cause contractions.  Really you don't want to pump at all the first few weeks of nursing (unless baby can't latch) because you'll just give yourself an oversupply (which you don't want!).

Check with your insurance company about a breast pump as the ACA requires they provide one.
  • Madela is the best brand, IMO.  Also, with the new health care requirements, all insurance companies should be providing breast pumps at no charge to new moms (as well as lactation services) so ask your insurance about this.  I think you get a rx for it and then pick it up at a medical supply store.  Not sure if its a rental or you get to keep it.

Also, you can rent them from BRU on a monthly basis - they have Madela hospital grade pumps - and this may be useful to see how the nursing goes, if you like the brand, etc...

Either way, don't pump before baby arrives.
