July 2014 Moms

How has this pregnancy been different?

Certain things have felt much different this time than throughout the pregnancy with my son. More nausea than last time, more severe cramping in my stomach, more acne, and -- I often feel like someone has kicked me in the crotch. The muscles (???) down there always feel really strained that I'm kind of concerned if this gets worse it's going to me a miserable few months until July. I vowed not to be a waddling pregnant woman, but not sure what other options I will have if I can't get comfortable later on.

What is different this time, regarding symptoms and how you are feeling, this time?

Re: How has this pregnancy been different?

  • I haven't felt too much different, yet.  Morning sickness seems to have lasted the same amount of time (glad that's over).  I got an awful cold during first tri with DS and I got one this time around, so I'm thinking that may something I have to deal with if I get pregnant with #3 (weakened immune system and all).

So far, the only noticeable difference for me is some "pangs" in my lower abdomen area.  I don't really know how to describe them.  They aren't shooting pains and I don't double over from them, but it isn't exactly comfortable.  I assume it's just from things growing and stretching, plus I had a c-section with DS, so it may have to do with my incision area too.  Nothing yet that has given me cause for concern, just something I don't remember feeling last time around.

  • Opposites for me. I am not showing a lot like I was with my first. (Weird, right?) I didn't really feel that sick last time and was diagnosed with HG this time. It seems as if everything is tougher with this pregnancy.

Also because Oliver was born seven weeks early, I have to have progesterone shots every Monday to keep this one in there until term. I just had my second one yesterday. I am feeling really debbie downery about this pregnancy.

  • Morning sickness is so awful this time. With DD I think I vomited twice. With this one I vomit once sometimes more a day. Smells also make me vomit which they never did before.

  • Morning sickness hasn't been nearly as bad this time. The fatigue isn't as bad either. And I can feel my pants getting tighter, so I know I'd be showing if I weren't overweight. With DD, my pants didn't feel tight until 7 months or so.
    Lilypie Second Birthday tickers Photobucket
  • I gained more weight the first time around. Probably 20 lbs by 20 weeks. As of right now, at 15 weeks, I'm not showing at all (I kind of had a tummy to begin with due to leftover baby weight, and that hasn't gotten bigger) and I've lost 15 lbs.

The fatigue was way worse with DD. I slept about 18 hours a day the first time around, and I wasn't working. This time, I have a toddler, a step-son that's a toddler, a full-time job, and I still don't feel as tired. Mind you, I'm completely exhausted, but I don't sleep more than the 8 hours I get at night.

I felt DD kick at around 18 weeks, and I started feeling this one at 13 weeks. And the kicks/flutters have only gotten stronger.

I craved fruit, veggie sushi, yogurt, popsicles... anything light and cold, in the first trimester with the first one, and that has remained true with this pregnancy. Maybe there's another girl in here? Hopefully, I won't move on to the "anything fried" and chewy candy cravings I had last time in the second and third trimesters.

I got nauseous in the first few weeks with both, but never really vomited.

I'm also a bit more anxious about the birth with this one since I had such an awful experience with DD's birth and recovery.

@jnnfrrose6 I have the same "pangs". I was told that it's very likely to be adhesions tearing as your uterus grows. They do hurt :(

  • I had worse nausea/food aversions this time than last time... seems to have mostly subsided though.. now I only feel like crap when I'm hungry. No sore boobs this time, though, which has been nice... last time I had to wear a sports bra to bed my boobs hurt so much.

  • Love tits for everyone!

I am having similar symptoms as I did with DD, but either they are milder or I am not as focused on them as I was before out of necessity. I can't very nap all morning and night with a near 12 month old to keep after!
New symptoms this time were heartburn.

Also my cravings are all over the place this time. With DD, all I wanted was hot corned beef on rye with tons of Russian dressing.

  • I'm way more exhausted this time around, which I guess I can attribute to pregnancy while chasing a toddler around. I've got less acne, my breasts aren't as sore, and I've have more cramping. I'm also feeling movement earlier. My headaches have gotten worse much earlier. It's a mixed bag.

  • My morning sickness this time around is just as bad as last time, but instead of being all night long it's all day long.  Also, I was checking my pregnancy journal from last time and my m/s was gone by 16 weeks and I'm still going strong right now with this pregnancy so I think it will last longer this time.  Last time I didn't have sore boobs but I had tons of breakouts, this time I have sore boobs still and my breakouts are fewer.  I am already having RLP and some sciatic pain too, which didn't really hit me until 3rd tri last time - oh goody.  And similar to @jnnfrrose6and @Lhalliburton I am having some pains along my previous c/s scar and my scar is ITCHY like nobody's business right now!

  • I forgot about the awful acne too. I look like an 8th grader all over again. I can't do anything to treat it though, or my face dries out like crazy. I wash it, but nothing specifically for acne.

  • With DS I lost 15 lbs in the first 3 months do to all the vomiting. With this one the nausea has been more of a dry heaving not full on vomit. Also with this one I wake up wiht sore boobs everyday, never had that with DS.

  • They're pretty similar, but I haven't had any digestive issues with this pregnancy. I'm also retaining less water. Today is the day I removed my wedding rings, so I'm stoked at the less water retention.

Oh, this pregnancy I developed car sickness when riding in the back of cabs. That's not fun.

And my rhinitis hasn't been nearly as bad this pregnancy.

Overall, they're very similar, but this second pregnancy is slightly better.

  • I loved being pregnant with my son.  No morning sickness, felt great all the time and only got uncomfortable near the end.  I did get enormous though.  I gained 55lbs.

This time around I'm sick all the time.  Hating being pregnant.  I've thrown up more times than I can count, and it has not gone away.  It is still in full force!  So far I've only gained 4 lbs.  By this time with my last pregnancy I was up at least 10. My boobs hurt a lot too.  I'm always tired and nauseous.  No energy for anything.

My midwife says that if pregnancies are really different, chances are they are a different sex.  That would be nice... but I just want to start feeling better soon!

The nausea. I could count on one hand the number of days I felt even slightly queasy with the boys' pregnancies combined. This time, I felt sick all.day.long (only threw up once though) from weeks 6-10. It was staggering. :( I also started showing earlier, but that should be a given since this is my third.
  • Everything! With DS I was the envy of pregnant women, the only pregnancy symptoms I had was fatigue and high BP towards the middle and end. This time, I've been sick since before the BFP, extremely tired, sore everything, my boobs are bigger than they got with DS, I'm showing a lot earlier. DH thinks it's a girl because of all the differences, but we will find out in a month or so if DH is right.

  • I have a lot more morning sickness this time. I was nauseaus from around weeks 6-13 with DS and it was very mild. This came on almost immediately (its why I peed on a stick one day before I was supposed to get my period) and has been more intense to the point all I can do is lay down. I feel much more exhausted this time too. My food cravings/aversions are different too. This time, they almost change daily. There is nothing specific. With DS, I wouldn't touch a vegetable for months and wanted nothing but sweets. I'm also looking pregnant a lot sooner. Of course, I had a belly left over from DS and its just looking huge now.

Mentally, I'm not as excited to be pregnant this time around. I'm excited about the baby, but not the pregnancy if that makes any sense. With the first, everything was new and fun. I couldn't wait to experience everything, have a cute bump, wear maternity clothes, tell everyone, and get attention. Now I'll pass on all of that. This time I'm feeling worse and I just wish it could be over and I'll have a cute new baby.

  • I feel like they've been almost identical.

I think by now I was in maternity pants with DS but I'm still mostly wearing my regular jeans this time.
  • Everything is pretty much the same as with the other 3 babies.  No morning sickness, same food aversions (sweets), etc. (and I have a boy and 2 girls currently).  However, this time around I'm not as tired.  DH jokes that being pregnant 4 times in the last 6 years, my body is pretty well prepared.  What I'm curious to know is if I will have BH this time around.  With my first 2 I didn't (at least that were noticeable)- but with my 3rd I did a lot in the 3rd trimester and at times I thought it was preterm labor.  I don't want to have to deal with that again, it drove me nuts!  I'm 15 weeks and still not showing.  With my others it wasn't until @20-22 weeks but I was hoping with it being the 4th it would make an appearance earlier!
  • More vomiting and more hip pain. Less exhaustion. I have way less cravings. More RLP. Plus, all the bleeding and cramping I've had this time around.

  • Honestly, this pregnancy and my last are night and day. With the first I ate it all, slept constantly, and felt great. This time I still haven't gained anything, have food aversions, and I'm only exhausted because of this nasty virus.

Mentally, I'm having a hard time. With my first I was oblivious to anything that could go wrong. I was happy. Now, I'm worried I won't get my take home baby. And, if I do, I'm worried it will be so severely handicapped that my sweet boy won't get the love and attention he needs to thrive. I'm worried about what this will potentially do to our finances, and we'll probably have to move to accommodate a special needs child. It's a lot to think about considering we won't know the exact outcome until this child is five, if we even make it that far.

This pregnancy has me doubting my desire for a large family. The physical effects are nothing compared to the emotional toll it is taking on me, and I don't know if I can do it again.

Sorry for being Debbie downer again. Might have to take a little vacation from here to sort my thoughts.

They're pretty similar in that overall I've been feeling pretty good.  The biggest difference this time around is my appetite.  Last time, food in general did not sound good at all.  I was hungry, but nothing sounded good.  I actually lost weight the first few weeks.  This time has been fine.  I'm able to eat.  Chicken is grossing me out though.  Fast food/greasy food is appealing, last time I wanted pizza and juice.

ETA:  Oh I forgot about my skin!!  Last time, I had the most beautiful, blemish free skin.  Everything just cleared right up and I loved it.  Now everything is a greasy blemishy mess.

  • I had no nausea with my first pregnancy, this time around I was really sick for the first 4-6 weeks. First time around I was super fatigued, this time around is a bit better. I have also started having (painless) braxton hicks this time already - don't remember those till much later last time. Last time my hair got really thick and lovely, this time it's scraggly and thin.

Same food aversions (red sauce, peppers, all desserts and sweets) and cravigz( fresh fruit, especially pineapple and melon) as last time.

This time around I was diagnosed with hyperemesis. While I had really bad morning sickness that could have used some zofran with DS it wasn't bad enough for an ER visit,. This time I have been hospitalized for dehydration and given a home health nurse. I have had much more intense intestinal issues that I never had with DS like constipation, and bad bloating. BAD acne that comes and goes. More movement this time around (this kid is a busy body already and I thought it was soo weird to feel such intense movements already but apparently it happens)  and earlier (though they say w/ a second you notice flutters earlier). Serious food aversions. I was sick with DS but I was always okay eating whatever I wanted to as long as I didn't mind the possibility of it coming back up. This time I have a serious aversion to veggies whereas I normally LOVE them. My sense of smell is much more sensitive this time. Indigestion and heart burn started months sooner. I'm more emotional according to DH not to mention I feel more emotionally drained this time around than physically. I think it has a lot to do with getting through the hyperemesis one day at a time and still trying to function normally especially at work where i have to teach all day. It's harder to put on my smiley face when I don't feel like smiling. OH and my hair is shedding!! WTH I thought its supposed to be full and grow. It did the first time... sigh...

Is is July yet?? hahah I just want to meet this kiddo already.. and maybe enjoy a glass of Stella Rosa Black too.....
    :)

  • I had way worse morning sickness this time. I'm also already showing and feel big and a bit uncomfortable. Also, I get exhausted so much quicker than with DD, and I'm not sure that's because it's twins/I have DD to take care of. I definitely can't overdo it this time, I really need to only do as much as necessary, and no more. It's so frustrating because I wanna do stuff with DD, but going grocery shopping alone makes me feel weak at the end. I'm really hoping that it doesn't stay so difficult the whole time, but I'll do what I need to do to get these babies home!

It's very different from my first 3. This one is less gassy and bloated so far. I'm far hungrier than I ever was. And this is the only pregnancy where my nausea stopped for a whole, then came back. And I had much stronger cramps in the beginning of this one than the others. Also, ive bern getting lots of nose bleeds. Good things though are that I'm not nearly as constipated and I haven't had indigestion or heart burn yet :)
  • I didn't have many symptoms with my last three only a soreness in the pelvic area and being tired. With this one I have had nausea, back pain, cravings, gas, headaches, cramping from stretching, I've been tired but can't get to sleep quickly, and crazy zombie dreams a lot (I don't even watch zombie shows). Very different from the others but interesting to actually have symptoms.
  • 1st pregnancy (with DD): lots of m/s & vomiting (lost 12 lbs by 10 wks), heartburn like flames (every single day until I delivered), exhausted beyond belief, minimally sore boobs, didn't show until about 20-22 wks, no acne, lots of RLP, severe sciatic nerve pain from about 20 wks, lots of urination urgency, craved mostly sweets, mostly decreased libido, lots of edema, very emotional

2nd pregnanct (with LO): minimal m/s, 2 times vomiting, no heartburn, some fatigue (not nearly as bad, even with chasing a toddler), very sore boobs, still not showing at 15 weeks tomorrow (but blump is more firm), acne and back acne, not too much RLP, some sciatic pain already, no increase in urination urgency, craving salty/spicy, lack of appetite in first trimester (lost 6 lbs, so far), increased libido intermittently, extremely dry/itchy skin, no edema yet, much more relaxed emotinally
