Natural FET cycle?

I am doing a medicated FET cycle in March, but the RE said that I would be a good candidate for a natural cycle, too. I was just wondering: what are the advantages of a natural cycle? Has anyone ever done one with success? I haven't been able to find a lot of information about natural cycles.

Me: 28, DH: 35
DX: Severe MFI, AZFc Microdeletion
TTC since August 2011
IVF w/ ICSI 1: Dec. 2013 - BFN
FET 1.2: Mar. 2014 - BFN
FET 1.3: May 2014 - BFN
FET 1.4: June 2014 - BFP

I am going to ask my RE about that tomorrow... If I had to guess tho I think they are going to tell me that they don't do them... But we will see.

but from what I know they can do it a couple different ways.. You go thru your normal cycle you come in close to o for monitoring, some use a trigger to help control the o, but then once you o they monitor and then at the same time a natural egg would be in the ute they do the transfer. No shots (unless they make you trigger) and you go from there.

  • I Read your update on the February helpful hearts check-in. After reading it I have some questions. I'm going for my WTF appointment tomorrow, and I expect to start AF today. So why couldn't you start birth-control on day two of AF and go ahead and start with a FET in February? Guessing you have a different protocol that I do maybe? And if you're a good candidate for natural FET then why wouldn't they be able to do that one in February since just started AF? It seems like were in a very similar boat and these are the questions that I would have if my Re told me the same thing. Sorry just wondering! :)

  • The RE said that theoretically it would be possible, but that it would be a completely different protocol, one that he wouldn't really recommend for me. My RE wants to keep hormones to a minimum but says that success rates are higher with small amounts of hormones. Ultimately, he left the decision up to me, but I don't want to play the "what if" guessing game if it doesn't work. It is not a very large practice, so they only do group cycles once a month and I am too early for the Feb. group now. :(

  • I'll be doing unmediated FET for the very first time , I'm very excited that I don't have to do the patches or the horrible POI that made my butt look and feel like Kim kardashian ( in not a good way :( ) please keep me posted on yours :)

I found someone that posted this at a different forum , just wanted to share. To improve implantation, my RE copied a successful study...and it worked! Intrauterine hCG before ET https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/22047664

  • I'm a IF grad and we did a natural FET cycle.  Our first fresh cycle didn't work, and our RE said that they've seen about equal success rates with medicated and unmedicated (natural cycle) FETs.  I think it depends on the woman's fertility issues.  In our case, we had MFI and no fertility issues on my end.  The process was pretty simple.  A few weeks (can't remember the exact schedule) after my LMP I'd go in for monitoring in the mornings. They did blood work and ultra sound to track my hormone levels, uterine lining and follicles.  They are basically monitoring for when I ovulate naturally.  After bloodwork and sono confirmed that I did in fact ovulate, we came in the next day for the FET.  Since I was not on any progesterone or estrogen, which is part of a natural cycle, I didn't have to take any medication after the FET.  So it was really nice not to take the PIO shots in the butt. We are 10 weeks today :)
