Bringing home baby outfit - winter

I'm trying to decide what to bring to the hospital for baby to wear home.  If all goes according to plan, we'll be in the hospital at the end of February and it will probably be pretty cold! We have several of the fleecy "snow suits" but I know you're not supposed to put baby in a car seat in those.  Other than that, I'm thinking a fleecy (but not puffy) sleep and play, with a onesie underneath? Add a hat, blankie around the car seat, and a car seat cover...do you think that's enough? Sorry, FTM and I don't want to be getting a side eye from anyone that thinks she's not dressed warm enough for Feb!

  • Same here. I'm bringing a few outfits with me, but I'm thinking and onesie and fleece sleeper should be good. Don't forget little mittens :)

  • I live in the midwest, we have had so super cold and super warm days. Yesterday was 67 degress and tomorrow is going to be around 30ish degress T_T so we are going to take a couple of different outfits with us. Our LO is breech atm so we don't know if she is going to be a c-section baby or not so we don't know what the weather is going to be like, she is due March 2nd but doc said I can go as early as Feb 16 and as late as March 17th just depends on baby.

  • Honestly it doesn't make that much of a difference. Unless you are walking home. Baby will be outside for all of three minutes while you get into the car. Just have a blanket and put LO in whatever cute outfit you want.

because it didn't fucking snow enough for me to build my own
  • I had ds in mid February last year and i lived in Colorado. It was cold out but like a PP said, he was outside for maybe a whole minute. I just had him in a long sleep onesie with a short sleeve onesie underneath, and a light sweat shirt over everything... then of course a hat and some thicker socks. We also put some of those little mittens on him that keep baby from scratching themselves. Besides all that a blanket too. He seemed comfy without being too warm.
  • OP- I am thinking that is a bit much... those car seats get HOT!

A fleece sleeper, hat, thin blanket and car seat cover will be plenty. If you don't have a car seat cover, I'd put a thick blanket over the seat to carry it to the car.

Unless you're planning on trekking home for miles in the snow/wind, your LO will get hot.

We always keep a thick blanket in the car just in case (stuck on side of road, heat goes out in car.... etc... etc)

  • Most hospitals have a pick up/drop off point. So really, the amount of time you and your LO is outside, probably won't be that long, so no need to go overboard. A sleeper, hat and a blanket sound fine to me!

  • I'm due next week, and I have 3 different outfits depending on the weather (in Boston, it can snow one day, and then be 50 the next)

I have a fleece sleeper, a little outfit with pants and a zip-up, and a onsie with little pants and socks. oh, plus hats and a regular blanket, nothing heavy or fleece or anything.
