June 2014 Moms

reassure me please

We've decided I'm going to be a SAHM after charlie is born. Great. Except I was watching Catherine eat her blueberries with a fork tonight and realized that daycare taught her to use a fork...and daycare taught her to say please and more in sign, and daycare taught her to do all sorts of things and what if poor Charlie can't eat with a fork until he's five because I don't know how to teach a kid how to do that? I'll have one baby stick with the skills of a two year old forever and one who's an infant forever. Please reassure me that I know how to be a mom. Having a moment of panic.

Thanks ladies. Gifs happily accepted!

Re: reassure me please

  • You definitely know how to be a mom, I promise! And by feeding a baby with utensils they learn to use them themselves. They're intelligent little stinkers. :) *sings* "Anything daycare does, you can do better!!!!!!"

    You got this Momma!!! :)
  • You'll do great!!! Being able to stay at home gives you a ton of opportunities to teach your new LO and you can say that you taught him not the day care!!! And I'm sure it will help that your DD knows them already so he'll probably learn from her too!

You'll do great! You will be able to teach them both way more than they would learn in a daycare because they are more invested in you. You are a great mom!

  • Enlist the older child to teach the younger child...duh...j/k you'll be fine! And while I am sure it is super difficult to be a SAHM, it is also an awesome job to have and like any new job, takes a little getting used to...fortunately when you are first on the scene Charlie will be small and sleep and eat and poop!

  • You got this mama :)

  • You'll do awesome job!!!! Being a mom is the best job in the world.
  • Don't fret! DS learned how to use a fork by watching DD. DD loves showing and teaching him new tricks and things.

Also, do not be afraid to ask for help or take a break when your DH gets home. SAH can have really stressful days too.

  • You'll do great! You will know what to do, and have so much fun being the one with your babies all day!

    Congrats!!! :)
  • You will screw up sometimes. It's inevitable. But at the end of the day your kid will know he is loved and the rest will follow as it follows. None of us will do it perfectly but I think you'll be just fine!

I'm not new. I just hate The Bump.

  • The trick is to train the first child really well so they lead by example, so problem solved ;-)

We were just remarking on this today because I don't even have to tell DS3 to do much of anything, he just does it. He is 19m old and he goes and gets his toothbrush and brushes his teeth and then lets me also brush them, brings me his diaper and wipes, puts himself to bed now, eats with utensils, and he helps me clean the house.

You will do great! You will love being SAH! Congratulations!

  • You'll be ok! As a SAHM, I just try to stay on top of developmental milestones. I also ask my friends with kids in daycare what they are working on. You'll be surprised at what they pick up without you even thinking about it!
  • You'll do great. Even though you're a working mother now, you still teach your daughter things, school isn't molding her as much as you are, iI'm sure. You'll keep doing it with both of your kids and then some as a SAHM. Enjoy!!!

  • Take a deep breath. You'll be fine. My LO was never in daycare and she knows how to use a fork. (Kind of) don't beat yourself up before you've even given yourself a chance :)
  • The youngest will want to do everything the older sibling is doing! Don't worry - they will learn too quickly and you will want to slow them down ;)
  • Will you be an awesome SAHM?

  • If I could do those things, so can you lol. Dean didn't start talking until after he was 2 so I taught him sign language for more, eat, and drink. That helped a bunch. We're still working on please and thank you. It's just a lot of repeating and being consistent. I doubted myself a lot at first too but you'll get more confident a time goes on.

Besides, if he doesn't learn to use a fork at home there's always kindergarten.  ;)

  • I am anti-baby sign language for personal reasons so that wouldn't be a deciding factor for me. That you're even concerned with ensuring they learn ALL THE THINGS is a sign of what a terrific mom you already are. I think you will love the precious time with them. You can always work when #2 goes to school.

  • pcourtade your son is named Dean? I love that name!

  • You will do amazing I am sure of it, freaking out a bit just shows that you will figure out a way to teach your kids.

FTM here, so I have no clue either, but this is what I am telling myself

  • Don't worry, you have the bump boards to ensure you are aware of all the milestones your kid isn't hitting like knowing their abcs by 6 months, etc. :p Just kidding! You will be fine.
