LO won't drink from the Frozen BM stash

Hey Ladies, I need some advice.

I have around 120oz of Frozen BM, dating from October to early December. Once thawed, the BM has a strong smell but I had a LC come to my house and she said it was OK to give to LO, but a taste dislike for him. The LC thinks the smell is due to the high amounts of Omega 3's I have in my diet and it is not lipase but certainly has a metallic/strong odor. In order to get rid of the smell I had to scald the milk after thawing, and it worked for LO for many months. I did not use frozen BM for a while and am I trying to use up my stash or at least rotate it and LO will not take this milk at all. I have tried, the sitter has tried and DH has tried and he simply refuses it. Clearly the break from the taste has backfired on me as he did accept the milk, even from me for a few months.

Last night I blended some of this BM with some formula (formula he will take) and he took 2 oz but refused the rest. I am at a loss. I have all this milk, I am on the brink of just throwing it out in frustration but I so want to be able to use the BM somehow.

Does anyone have any experience with this or any ideas on what I can do to try to use it.

TIA!

Re: LO won't drink from the Frozen BM stash

  • LO is sometimes picky with my frozen milk and sometimes not. I mix in some fresh milk with my frozen milk and that seems to help. Also making the bottle really warm has helped. I used to just make it room temp or so, but now I make it much warmer than that. Lately he's been accepting it every time (even without fresh mixed in), so I think he just got used to the taste. Somedays I think teething is playing a role in his getting upset with the bottle.
