S+TMs: Best Toddler Apps

DS1 takes after my H and I in that he is a complete tech addict. After he coopted our iPhones (and learned to navigate them better than my H), we decided to get him a Kindle Fire for Christmas, since we'll be doing a ton of car/plane traveling this year.

(Yes I bought my 2yo a tablet. Flame away!)

But in case there were other tech addicts like me, I thought we could share out favorite toddler apps.

Our #1 hands down is Endless Reader (iOS)/Endless Alphabet (android). My son is practically teaching himself to read with this thing and I find it almost as entertaining as he does. Other favorites include:

Very Hungry Caterpillar Counting App
Goodnight Moon
Press Here
Peek-a-boo Barn (also Forest, Fridge, etc)
My First Words flashcards

What are yours?

Anything Toca Boca is great. Letter school, PBS kids app, noodle words….. I'll have to check the iPad and post more. I really like this article about apps: https://www.theatlantic.com/magazine/archive/2013/04/the-touch-screen-generation/309250/
    ETA a few more:
Dial safe pro - it teaches kids how to dial numbers and 911 properly
    Petting zoo
    Peek-a-zoo
    Little Fox
    Counting bear
    Teach me toddler
    Goodnight safari
    Nighty night
    Duplo Jams
    Knock knock family

  • Agnitus (subscription, but absolutely worth it--takes data on child's progress, generates reports, and scales in difficulty)
Little Writer or any of the other stuff by Alligator Apps
    Injini (full version is $)

  • My son loves the Monkey Preschool apps. There's a math app and a reading app you can get free, and I think more you can upgrade to.
  • My kiddo loves anything by Toca Boca, Earth School, Lazoo Zoo, Dirty Kids, Trucks by Duck Duck Moose, and I have a bunch of random freebies with matching puzzles that he really likes. He used to be into Endless Alphabet, but not so much these days.

Super why (more of a reading one but my 3 year old can do most)
  • I'll have to check all of these out.  I'm always looking for new apps to add to the rotation.  :)
