pots and pans

i was reading up on when to replace non-stick pots and pans, and of course, google has me all riled up.  according some articles, i should have replaced my non-stick pots and pans after a year, or after the first scratch. now my pots and pans are about 6 years old and scuffed up with some minor scratches.  now i'm nervous about the teflon and toxic fumes and "carcinogens" blah blah blah.  please, tell me, am i over-reacting?  i can not be the only person who has scuffed pots and pans, right?  please calm me down.  thanks ladies.

Re: pots and pans

  • Well, there's no use in freaking out about the past, but I'd get new pots and pans. You aren't supposed to keep using those kinds after they get scratched. We use stainless steel, cast iron and enamelware. No Teflon or any other kind of non stick stuff.
lol well i freak about everything...so naturally now i'm freaking out.  arg! so other than buying new cookware (which i did this afternoon) is there anything else that i should do?  talk to pedi?  blood test?

did i mention i'm freaking out?

okay so i guess my question is...is this a serious issue?  or just move forward?  my dh thinks i'm waaaaay overthinking it.
  • Toss the pans and move on.  If they were truly that harmful, I doubt they would be on the market at all.  Plus, keep in mind the people out there who either had no idea or never cared and kept using those pans, even as they got worse.  I can't say I've ever seen a Today show segment featuring individuals who became I'll from old beat Teflon pots and pans.

  • Throw them. Start over. Forget about it.

Teflon probably isn't the best when scratched, but it's not going to kill you tomorrow either.

Honestly, there 23452542 I'm worried about before Teflon.

  • ugh i feel like such an idiot!  i can not believe that i potentially exposed my children to this stuff. thanks for you input, ladies.
