Talk to me about your wedding cake

Hi ladies! My wedding is coming up pretty soon and I'm wondering how big your cake was. I know it depends on the number of guest, I'm having 80-100 people. I saw this really cute cupcake incorporated idea to the wedding cake (has anyone done this?). I met with this lady that makes wedding cakes and only charges 1.00 per slice so it will come out to 100.00 for the cake, not bad considering the venue has a cake for 550.00. It would be awesome of you posted pictures of your cake :) thanks in advance ladies!

Re: Talk to me about your wedding cake

  • Ours served 150 and came out to $3/slice

  • Ours served about 200.  MIL made it so it was free.  I have no idea if there was any cake left, that was the least of my concerns.  We also had mints and cake balls.imageimage

  • We did DIY and we had rice Krispy squares that we decorated with ribbon and flowers and such to look like a cake then we made extra "regular" pans to make sure we had enough. If I can find a picture when I get hone I'll post it.
  • We had 3 cakes, 2 groom cakes and the two tier bride cake. We paid 100 for all three cakes. Good Luck with your planning.
  • We had our three tiered cake and two sheet cakes made. I think we had 3 flavors (lemon, chocolate hazelnut, and white). It was $350, served 200 and there were extras.

  • My mom made ours so it was free. It was kind of a hot mess, but it was delicious.

  • mmmm, I love wedding cake. I don't remember how much it was... but each tier had a different filling layer in the cake (lemon, raspberry, regular cake icing,...) and it was DELICIOUS. Yum yum yum. We saved and froze the top for out 1 yr. It was still good. image

  • We had about 75 people at our wedding.  I don't remember how much our cake was.  Maybe like $300?  But I loved it.  It was exactly what I wanted.  It was carrot cake and it was amazing!  :)

We had a three tier wedding cake, saving the top tier, and we had two sheet cakes because sheet cakes tend to be cheaper than tiered cake. I think we had 350 guests and not much cake left over.

    Now I want wedding cake.

Eta: I think all of that was around $400. We just went to the local HyVee bakery. It was really good!

  • Yay wedding cake! I don't have pictures because our wedding is coming up in September but wet are doing cupcakes for guests (about 250) and a small cutting cake for just us at the had table. That along with a cake on our anniversary will be less than $300 and our cutting cake will have a lot of decoration. So exciting!
  • Here is our cake..three different flavors. I believe it served 200. Cannot remember how much- my cake lady was also my flower lady.

I miss HyVee. We don't have them where I moved. Or Hen House.

Hy-Vee cake is so yummy!  Also, when your LOs get big enough, you can ask for a kid cookie when you are shopping and they'll give your kid a free cookie from the mis-shapen or broken ones.  :)  DD yells "COOKIE" every time we get groceries.

  • Mmmm wedding cake!image
This was our cake. It's was fake. This is after it had been poked at all night. The top tier was real, that's what we cut, and then we had sheet cakes. It ended up being cheaper that way. I think we paid around $300?

@Dee2588 isn't it so fun picking out everything?! But also so overwhelming. Who knew there were so many choices for such stupid little things that you never thought of.

  • Ours was pretty simple, chocolate and vanilla, and was about $150. It fed the 100 guests we had and there was plenty left. I still haven't eaten the top teir. We got it from the local bakery.

Ours was three tiered, and we used the cake topper from DH's parents' wedding cake. It was from a local baker - white cake with a layer of lemon, just enough for a taste of lemon. I don't remember how much it cost. MIL bought it as a gift to us. I don't think it was more than $100, though. We also had yellow (lemon drop) and green (margarita) Jelly Bellys and yellow and green M&Ms.

We had about 150 guests. We took the top layer home to freeze and we ate it at our one year anniversary. It was really good even after a year!

  • Our cake served 150 people and cost about $250. A year later the bakery made us the same cake for our anniversary but a smaller version for free. image

  • Here is a picture of the top tier. The floral design mimicked a part of my dress. The R is for our last name. Hydrangea are my favorite flower so we incorporated those too. The cake was all ivory on ivory.
  • The post makes me hungry for cake!

  • This was enough for 137 people. I loved my cake

  • We were married November 2012. We had 150 guests and had 2 cakes, our wedding cake and a grooms cake. Our wedding cake was piña coloda on one layer and chocolate mint on the other...a little non traditional but hey, it was our day. Our grooms cake signifies our love for the Philadelphia phillies and flyers. The phanatic (mascot) sits on top of a luggage trunk because we love to travel. Grooms cake flavor was apple spice with raisins soaked in wine from a local winery! We loved them both!
  • I love you all for your comments. Who would of thought making a decision on a cake would be so hard. Thanks ladies! All these pictures made me hungry. All cakes look awesome. Love the Nintendo cake @imakeeff0rts

We had cupcakes that were different flavors and decorated to match our Fall wedding and then a very small, ornate two-tier cake for us to cut one tier and save one for our anniversary. People loved the cupcakes because there were many flavors- dark chocolate, red velvet, carrot cake, brown sugar, pumpkin and funfetti.

ETA: this cost us about $350 total from a local cupcakerie (if this isn't a word, it ought to be).
