3rd Trimester

Dull period like cramps

We've been super short at work (I'm an STNA/CNA) and I've been having to work the floor. I am on lifting restrictions per the doctor but that doesn't seem to matter to my job. I've been having throughout the day dull period like cramps. I've also been having more back pain. Today I am almost positive that I lost my mucous plug. It was slimy with a tint of red/pink in it. Do I need to call the doctor, go to the hospital or just wait for my doctors appointment? That is on Wednesday. I'm a FTM and I have no idea what to do!!

Re: Dull period like cramps

  • Call your doctor for sure and let them know your mucus plug had some pink and red in it. You could just be having Braxton hicks contractions but it's better to be safe than sorry. Your mucus plug can also come out a few weeks before actual labour. And stop lifting heavy things, especially now

  • Thanks ladies!! I just wish my job would be a little more understanding than they are. I even gave them a note from the doctor. The lady that takes care of all that said "you never gave me a note." I told her that I did and had my friend was with me when I did.
  • You should be firm with them and say " hey, sorry but this far along in my pregnancy I'm not going to be lifting heavy things"
  • Yes, be firm with work and call your doctor.
I'm a STM.  I've had period like cramps off and on for the past few weeks.  If it's any reassurance, my advice nurse just said to take tylenol and stay hydrated.  They're nothing of concern.  Same with loosing your mucus plug.  Now your cervix can dilate, but it can happen any time - hours, days or weeks from now. That being said, get a professional's take on your situation. GL!

  • Definitely call your doc. I have a very high stress job too. Friday I was having more severe back pain than what has been normal over the past 2 weeks and was having period like cramps that were coming every 20-30 mins. I kept trying to put it off like it was nothing. Finally I couldn't take it anymore and left my office at noon. At 1:30 I talked to my doc who sent me to L&D when I got there and got hooked up to the monitor it turned out I was actually having contractions 2 mins apart but not feeling all of them. My point is never just assume it's nothing, better to be safe than sorry and check with your doc.
