I know we were just talking about PIO injections the other day, but what about the welts that last days? My poor butt is so sore. Anyone with helpful hints for after injections? (I already ice before and use heat after...but the spot I injected 2 days ago is still sore and welted).

I take back everything bad I have ever said about using the hoohah bullets! I would use those 5 times a day if I meant I could sit without pain

Are you massaging the spot after injection? I don't ice before, but I lay down flat in bed, then have DH do the injection and massage the spot for a few minutes. I apply heat for 10-15 minutes and then try to get up afterwards and walk around. I have never had a problem with knots or welts.

It could also be the type of oil. I know some women are sensitive to certain oils.

We did the laying down last night (because of you

) but no massaging! I will give that a try tonight and see.

Hopefully that helps, some oils are thicker and might need more help spreading out. I think I usually get Progesterone in ethyl oleate, which I think is a little thinner than say sesame oil. I have a few donated vials this cycle that are in sesame oil, so I might end up in the same boat as you.

Ooh thought of something else. Do you warm the PIO before injecting? Some women warm it with their body heat or run they syringe under warm water. I've never done this but some swear it helps.

I feel as though I mastered PIO shots. I wet a washcloth and microwave it for about a minute - use tongs to take it out of the microwave and wrap the vial in it for about 4 minutes. You should see the oil moving quicker in the vial when you swirl it around. I typically load a few syringes at a time and then just warm up the syringe that way. Ice is your enemy- you need the oil as thin as possible. After injection you need to keep the muscle warm. Heating pads are good, but lunges and stairs and walking around using that muscle is so much better. Once you have a welt- its almost impossible to get rid of unless you're doing exercises to work that muscle.

Yes, I've also heard not to ice as it effects the oil when it enters your body. I've also heard massage with a tennis ball afterwards.

I have several and I have been off PIO since Friday... I went for a run on Saturday and that really made some of them go down... I know you can't run if you are on the PIO.. @poohniki when you heat the oil and do the inject, do you notice that more comes out after the inject? I noticed a little more leaked out in comparison when I did the shot without heating the oil. I would put mine in my bra for about an hour before the inject, it is a lot thinner and goes in easier... But I still got welts but they were not painful. Good luck!

@ashris13 DH never mentioned any leaking out- but he goes so flipping slow.. probably separates it into 8 pushes for 1 ml and waits 5 secs between each push... and then after the last push he keeps it there for like 15 secs.. so maybe that is why

I echo this. I also use progesterone in sesame seed oil and walk alot afterwards.

I only have 3 days of experience with PIO but I've done things differently each time. I haven't been icing or heating the skin but I have been holding the vial in my hand for a couple of minutes to warm up the oil.

The first night I just sat down afterward and ate chocolate... could barely sit the next day. The second night DH rubbed it for a while after the shot and it was a bit better. Last night I had to be a warrior and do the shot on my own (while looking in the mirror and questioning my life)... afterwards I was up and down stairs putting away laundry, cleaning, etc. Even better today. So for me, the medicine seems to absorb better/break up easier if I move around.

This made me LOL! I'm glad this was posted since I'm headed this route. My RE said that I must be metabolizing the suppositories too fast since AF usually starts 10 days after I start taking them.

@sandollar1010 Props to you! =D> I've always thought ladies who do the shot on their own are troopers. When my DH works nights, I drive 40 mins each way to his work and make him jab me in my car. It's so ridic, but I just can't do it myself!

I just started PIO Friday night- and I've been living with that heating pad! (that is, when I can fight my cats off it. they lovvvvee it). I have to go back to work tomorrow, so I'm not looking forward to leaving the heating pad at home! One side of my butt feels kind of knotted, but the other side is okay. It's like it heals up just in time for that side's shot. Darn you, PIO. Darn you.

I had constant non stop welts everyday on both sides bc they never went down from the day before... does that make sense? Some nights when my husband was giving me the shot I'd cry bc I knew the next day was going to be hell. I did lunges which helped a little. I was just like F it. What can ya do? I went around moaning and groaning about how much my buttt hurt. ha.

@scooteriste you are SO funny!! I've been giving myself shots too and catch myself giving myself pep talks in the mirror...its ridiculous. But honestly I think it hurts less than when my DH does it. He gets nervous which makes me nervous. One time he bounced the needle off my butt twice before I grabbed it and said I'll do it. I take one for the team and let him give me a shot every now and then

I also walk around a lot holding a cotton ball and massaging at the same time. Overkill? So far it works.

Laying down, heating pad and DH massaging my butt were the norm. I noticed I had a good side (shots didn't hurt as much) and a bad side (it was sooore!). I started to get itchy hives by day 12 and those hives/welts stayed there long after I was no longer getting PIO shots. Make sure you don't get itchy if you do, you may be developing an allergy and it doesn't always happen straight after the first shot.

Assuming we make it to transfer, I get to join both clubs. My clinic has me on PIO after ER and then add supps after transfer. So CBAM and Hooha bullets 4eva!
