Staying hydrated?

Anyone else having problems staying hydrated?
I am trying to drink as much water as I can, especially since I was told a few weeks ago that dehydration can be a cause of pre term labor. I am at 35w and the weather here in AZ has reached the 70's now.
I just feel sick after half a glass of water, but know I have to keep going for LOs sake.
To make it worse I was told by my OB last week that I had gained 4lb in two weeks. She wasn't very happy about that. I haven't changed my diet or routine, just increased fluids, so I guess it was that.
Anyone else sick (literally) of having to drink so often?

Re: Staying hydrated?

  • I hate drinking water normally, so it's been hard for me. I've actually been marking down every time I have a glass of water so that I can keep track of how much I've had that day. According to my OB, the goal is 100 oz a day.

  • Nope. Fortunate for me I've been craving ice cold water. :) sucks at bedtime though when I have to get up several times.

  • I know it may be hard to drink water but try to force yourself. When you wake up have a class right away and have water beside you all the time. At each meal and snack. Maybe put some lemon in it to give it some taste.

And don't worry about your weight. 4lbs in 2 weeks at this stage is actually very normal. Your baby is doing alot of growing right now and has to pack on the fat :) and it could also be water retention. Put it this way my sister gained 12lbs in one week and she was 36weeks. It was all water. It happes
  • I've been struggling with low amniotic fluid levels and it looks pretty well linked to hydration for me at least. I do okay during the week but weekends are really hard for me to remember/want to drink water and it definitely showed when they measured today (7cm rather than the usual 10-12 I was at last week). I'm about to try the lemon trick for a little bit of flavoring when I'm at home not drinking from my water bottle. Having super cold water helps me drink more too. I leave my water in the fridge when I can. It's part of my overnight routine to get up, pee and then get some water.
  • I am 33 weeks and was at L&D on Friday with contractions 2 mins apart thanks to apparent dehydration. Thursday & Friday were super busy days at work and I know I only drank half my daily recommended amount both days. The hospital had me drink about 3 pitchers of water and the contractions stopped. Needless to say I constantly have had a glass of water or water bottle attached to me ever since. So drink drink drink and when you think you've had enough drink some more!
