How did this clearly offensive/racist comment get passed by?? Does no one else find this wrong? Clearly not since there is two more pages of the discussion and not once did someone mention it. Judging a families personal decision seemed more important. Lewispm can you please explain what you meant by "dropping the Cosby kids off at the pool?" It seems to me you were putting African Americans in the same category as stool/feces/ someone bowel movement. You want to hear your wrong? Your very wrong for this comment. You don't know where to begin? How about an apology for your comment, even though I'm sure it's not the first or last one you will make. If that's the only place your mind can go...that's sad!

The English language is full of offensive slang and expressions. People use them without thinking. Does that make it right? No. But if you know someone isn't deliberately trying to be hurtful, you can say "hey, that phrase means xyz and it upsets me. Please reconsider using it." You don't have to immediately go to jumping down her throat.
If you really were a long time lurker, or an AE who knew the regulars, then you'd know that if we thought Lewis was being a jerk, we would have called her on it.
It's not a lovely phrase, I agree. But @lewispm is a lovely person, and all of us know that. I'm sorry you were offended. I assure you, that was not her, or any other J12 poster's intention.

@pregg0, I am 100% sorry for any offense I may have caused you. I sincerely did not mean any at all! I don't really find calling the Cosby kids brown a bad thing, as they are brown. Poop is also brown. I am not calling black, African American, brown, (whatever you may call it) people poop. That is quite a stretch if you ask me. Probably not the best phrase to have used, but I am very comfortable with most the people on this board and didn't think twice about using it. Maybe I should have, as it is a public board and it is true that some could take offense.
Listen, I don't know you, and you don't know me, and I haven't read any comments on here yet. But can we just leave it as I'm sorry to have offended you? I still don't find my comment racist, and I can assure you I am not racist, but I am definitely sorry if you took it that way.
And now that I've thought about it a little more, I'd like to add one thing.
Like I said before, I don't know you and you don't know me. Did I thoughtlessly use a statement that could have been taken offensively? Yes. Did I have any ill intent whatsoever? No. I have apologized for lacking tact in my comment, but I do not intend to sit here and let you imply that I am racist. Honestly, when people start pinning people as racist, that is when the real racism begins. If I were black and said the same phrase, would it be ok?
I get that you felt the need to say something about how that phrase could be taken offensively. I really do get that. I said it completely thoughtlessly as it is a phrase I've heard thrown around all the time, but when I really think about it I can totally understand where you're coming from. I even get that you were angered that no one seemed to notice that what I said was totally not PC. But your reaction is really what gets me.
Instead of giving someone the benefit of the doubt that he or she was just making a comment, you react as if I am, in fact, some kind of racist out there making racial slurs every which way and what a sad life I have. By insinuating that I am a racist and everyone on here must not care or they would have said something, you are basically calling an entire group of women that you don't know, hundreds of women including lurkers, racist based off of something as trivial as the use of a poorly chosen common phrase. Now if that isn't one way to perpetuate racism, I don't know what is.
