Is anyone still using a baby monitor?

DS  his room today through a baby gate and a baby proof door knob and didnt make any noise so the baby monitor didnt alert me I only knew when he came and knocked on my  bedroom door. I am starting to feel the monitor is useless at this point. Is it worth it to keep in his room and buy another for our next baby due in may or just pack the current one up and use that in may?

Re: Is anyone still using a baby monitor?

  • We have a video monitor, and we definitely still use it. I love it! We are planning to just get a second camera for baby 2 in March. If it's not working for you anymore though, it doesn't seem like there's any need to keep using it.

  • I haven't used mine in forever, however our rooms are smack dab next to each other.

  • I use monitors for both kids.  We used an audio monitor for DS, and there was one scary night when he was 21 months old and had an asthma attack.  I would not have heard him if we didn't have the monitor on, because he couldn't get enough air to cry.  He was just making this grunting sound.  We actually got a video monitor before DD was born.  We use the video monitor for DS since he gets into a lot more trouble (but thankfully, no more asthma attacks or ER trips).  We use the old Sony audio monitor for DD.
DS born 8/8/09 and DD born 6/12/12.
  • We still have an audio monitor. Though he STTN (other than his night terrors) almost every night, he has an off night every once in a while (like last night), and with doors shut I can't hear him right away.
  • We never used ours.

We still use ours. But really only for when he's asleep upstairs and we're downstairs.

We don't use it at night. DS's room is right across the hall so we hear him pretty easily... And I still bring him in our bed when he wakes up (because he still doesn't STTN-ugh!), so we really have no use for a monitor at night.

I do the same. DD is far from STTN...

  • We use our video monitor still. I confess I still love watching him sleep, plus he'll be evicted from his crib to a toddler bed soon to make room for the next baby, and it was so helpful to be able to watch DD during that bed transition that it makes it worth it

  • We still use it. I don't check it very often, but our rooms aren't next to each other and I wouldn't hear her without it.  And like some PP's, she will transition to a bed soon when #2 comes in March and they will room share so I'll want to keep an eye on her.

All of this exactly for us. We go in spurts of not using it to using sometimes for the video to see what he's up to on a rough night or when we are traveling

  • I still have our monitor up and running!! I'm not sure that I will ever be able to let it go, even though I feel like the mommy stalker sometimes. However it makes me feel more comfortable with my little climber!!!
  • I use it until I go to bed.  (We are in the same room).

  • YES!!!!  I use it for naps and nighttime.  We don't use the sound but I def. like to still be able to see him!  At this point, I'm not sure when I would be comfortable not using it!

  • We hadn't used the monitor in a few months because our room is right next to Cooper's. However, we just pulled it out the other day. He had a pretty severe injury on Wednesday and is on prescription pain killers. I keep the monitor on now because I'm worried he'll have a reaction to them (trouble breathing, or he'll puke-I know pain meds make me nauseous).

I also worried that he'd start crying and we won't hear him immediately. Normally I'd let him cry for a minute or so but not right now, I'm too worried about his pain level. We're OAD so I'm really glad this wasn't one of the things we donated already.

  • Love our video monitor and still use it. I plan to still use it once I put dd in a toddler bed (when she is 12 ;) )

  • We've never used one at night because our rooms are so close, but we still use it for naps.
