RSV - Not eating... maybe teething?

So we just got home from the hospital on Saturday.  LO has a bad case of RSV and needed to be monitored and put on oxygen for a few days.  He seems to be feeling a million times better but he's not eating much... He'll only nurse for a couple minutes and will only take about half of his normal bottles.  He doesn't seem dehydrated by any means but I'm worried...

He's also getting all 4 top teeth at the same time.. So I wonder if it could be that.

Anyone having issues with LO not taking milk when teething or from being sick.. even after they're 'recovering'? Tips?

EDIT: Oh, I should note that we have a follow up appointment with his PCP tomorrow and I plan on discussing all this with her.  Just curious if anyone else is going through the same thing and has any tips.

My LO's four top teeth are all coming in at the same time too and he's not eating as much either.

I take care of many babies with RSV @ work. I'm so sorry your LO had to be admitted into the hospital. RSV is brutal on these little babies. Does he still have a lot of nasal secretions? Babies have a hard time coordinating eating and breathing when they have nasal congestion. This may be why he's not eating well. It can be a combination of both teething and recovering from RSV.

Even if he doesn't need oxygen anymore it can take weeks to fully recover from RSV. Unless they swabbed his nose again (and it was negative) before you were discharged from the hospital, it's possible that he still has RSV. He probably just got thru the roughest part of the virus and is still recovering. Hope he feels better soon.

  • April - Yeah, he is definitely still recovering... I think we're through the roughest patch though.  We're doing the nose suction 3-4 times a day to try and keep him breathing well.  He's also prone to ear infections so we're trying to keep him drained to prevent that as well.  Thanks for the well wishes!
