I'm a EP and looking to buy a manual pump in case the power goes out/emergencies. I was looking at the medela since I use the symphony (interchangeable parts was the hope). Any experience or recommendations?
In my sleep deprivation I forgot the PISA has batteries. I think I'd still like a manual back up but it's probably not necessary. Maybe just to have when out in case the Pisa isn't with me and I get stuck out longer than planned... ?
I have one Medela harmony... It's awesome. I'm big on hand expression and I feel like I can pump with it and hand express as fast as an electric with it. I use it in the shower/bath or bent over the sink just to relieve big boobs when my DH takes a feed now... but in the beginning I used it a lot to get rid of blocked ducts.
ETA- I just waste my milk in the shower... but you could use interchangeable bottles and do a whole pumping in the shower or tub. It's ahhhhmazing.
@KatiesWei how do you like the PISA? Just bought one yesterday, haven't used it yet. I'm renting a symphony the first 2 months to tweak my supply, but got a good deal and need to get ready for work in 4 weeks. A lot of the reviews said it works as well as the symphony for them.
I have a medela harmony that I bought after the birth of DS1. I only use it occasionally (for when I am engorged or am leaving the baby home with a sitter) and it works great for my needs. If you're only going to use it for emergencies it would probably work just fine for you.

I don't think it works nearly as well as the symphony but I've heard others say they think it does. The suction isn't what I'm used too but I've only used it once so I'll have to try it again for a better review. I will use it at work too.
I have the Pisa and just used the battery pack for the first time. I was expecting a huge loss in suction but surprisingly I didn't notice a huge change at all!
I have the Medela Harmony. I can express as much as my PISA faster with the manual. I actually use it a lot,- middle of the night when I need to be quiet, when I don't want to be attached to something so I can jump up and tend to lo, or when we have company and I just need to do a quick pump in the next room.
