Twins are here

Thomas and Daniel were born on Jan 7th via c section at 38 weeks. Everything went fine and I've been home since the 11th. Trying to survive the lack of sleep but so much in love with my boys! They are eating every 2:30 hours and by the time I finish with both its almost time to start all over again. For all of you who already went through this when does it start to get. a little better? When do they start to sleep a little longer? I really need some advice. Thank you all

  • Honestly, it was a few months before mine stated going 3-4 hours. You're in survival mode right now. Just keep going. It does get better.
  • Congratulations! Your boys are beautiful and I love their names!

As for "when it gets better"....well it depends on the babies, but I'd expect to be in survival mode for at least the first 3 months. For me, things started getting much easier when they sttn at 6.5 months....then it's just different challenges as they get older. Hang in there and check in here often for support....you can do it!

  • Congrats! Hate to say it but it can take up to 1 year before the every few hours wears off. I tandem nurse my guys and at ten weeks are waking every 3 hours. But tandem nursing especially at night has saved me tons of time! And within 30 minutes I'm back to sleep! My oldest didn't STTN until 2 years. Hopefully these guys skip the 18 month sleep regression but you do get used to it. GL!

    Together 6 wonderful years.

  • Congratulations!  What beautiful boys!  I wish I had advice to you, but I will say that six weeks was a bit of a turning point for my two singletons…but it was still frequent for a while.

  • Congratulations! My boys are three months and things are starting to get better. Its ridiculous what I consider a good amount of sleep now - 2.5 consecutive hours. Hang in there.

  • Hang in there, mama!! Are you BFing? If not, I'd suggest you see if you can get a family member or friend help out for at least one stretch overnight to get a better, more solid stretch of sleep (if only once!)

I was BFing (well, EPing), so I was up with them every time they ate, but my mom stayed over a couple of nights a week, to take care of them if they got feisty between feedings, or had trouble settling. It made all the difference in my ability to actually get some sleep -- albeit broken sleep. DH REALLY benefited from her nights over -- he was getting 8 hour stretches (bastard). ;)

  • Congrats! I think it was about 2 months when they dropped one night feed. By 3 months mine where only getting up once at night, now at 5 months they sleep 7pm to anywhere from 6-7am. It will get better! I highly recommend tandem feeding and one up both up for night feedings. The first 2 months were the hardest for me between no sleep, hormones and generally not knowing what to do being a first time mom. I was completely overwhelmed at first, now I love hanging out with them and they are getting to be so much fun, hang in there!

Thank you all for the support and advice. I'm bottle feeding them between 2:30 - 3:00. in between. First couple of day I really thought I wouldn't make it since I haven't slept enough for the last 3 months of the pregnancy. Maybe 3 hours a night. What I have been doing with my husband is sharing shifts.. He would stay up until 4 or 5 am feeding. and changing them while I sleep and I would stay for the second shift while DH get some sleep...Last night we managed to have 6 hours each which was the best I had in many months...so wonderful. As Wishing35 mentioned I think being FTM, all the hormonal changes and the exhaustion are extremely hard at the beginning and I know it will eventually get better. Just need some support from you ladies... Thank you all!

  • Beautiful boys! Congrats mama

  • Congratulations! My twins will be 7 weeks on Wednesday and we're still in the trenches (albeit DH left when they were 4 weeks for school for 2 weeks came home Friday night around midnight and left Saturday morning for his grandpas funeral). I'm pretty miserable at this point, especially with a 3 year old who has decided her way of getting attention is to completely ignore anything I say. Ugh!

So we're still waiting for the "it gets better".

    Good luck!
