Has anyone had RLS when pregnant?

So, I had RLS with DS1.  I have it now and it's awful.  It is just the strangest feeling and it keeps me up at night.  Has anyone had any experience with it and what did they do to help with it?  I read that caffeine and also medicines, like Benedryl, make it worse.  While I was on nights (just switched this past week), I took Bendryl sometimes to help me sleep.  I also drink coffee on occasion.  I have cut back a lot, so I am hoping that helps.

  • I think I have a mild case, also mostly in the evenings. Avoiding triggers and getting exercise helps. It sucks!

  • I only have it while pregnant and its been worse this pregnancy. I have no advice on how to help make it better though.

It can be a symptom of low iron. You should have your levels checked if you haven't recently.
  • I've found that being overtired (thank you, my children, who don't sleep all night) and being dehydrated make it worse.

  • I have it very severe now. It started a couple months ago and often it keeps me up all night. I think last night I managed two hours of sleep because of it. The only thing I have found that provides some relief is to have a warm bath right bed and then wrap a warm magic bag around the leg bothering me that night. Then hopefully fall asleep really fast before it gets bad :)

Being active in the evening helps a bit too (I.e getting out for a walk)

  • I also agree with a previous poster about the iron as well. I have anemia right now. I find if I forget to take my iron supplements for a few days it is way more severe. Also caffeine is a big trigger. Any caffeine will cause my RLS to become unbearable at night.
  • Yes I have had phases where it was SOO frustrating. I find getting up and walking a bit helps and just generally changing my position. However, there are times when nothing helps.
