3rd Trimester

Panty liners causing irritation? (TMI)

Lately, it seems like I'm always a little irritated down there, and I don't know why. I switched up my panty liner brand, but it's still un scented. No weird materials, no scents, etc. I went back to my old ones and I still have the issue. I have more discharge this trimester, so I really don't want to wear nothing, but it feels almost like it's getting raw...and it's no fun! No weird colored discharge or odor going on. I use my typical feminine wash, which has always worked. Haven't changed detergent. Any ideas of what could be the issue? I have an appt the 29th to get the B strep test.

  • Stop using the liners and go back to your old ones or go liner free for a bit? Maybe sleep in then buff to get a little air down there?

  • Yeah, I would go liner free for a bit to see if it's really the liner or something else.

  • I'd try going liner free for a while. Maybe until your appt that way you can talk to your OB about it before trying the liners again
  • I have had the same issue and my dr told me today that I have a yeast infection and was told to use the 3 or 5 day kit for it. Hope this helps!
  • Ugh. Hope you get some relief soon and any meds needed! I hate hate hate pads (yeah postpardom is going to the worst few weeks ever!) so wearing liners for the last few months has been so annoying. I go liner free at night and use unscented cheapie brand.
  • I had that issue. I was using liners because we were on a trip. It was bad and I was REALLY raw. So, I stopped wearing liners and used 7 day monistat. It cleared up and I don't wear liners now. I just make sure I keep my bladder empty so I don't leak and to change my underwear if I need to. Don't sit in wet.

  • So I'll definitely be going without at night. I already change my underwear often, just cause I HATE feeling at all dirty, especially there. When I work though, I feel like I need to cause I can't change undies there lol. If I feel like there's any "wet" I change the liner. Pregnancy is so gross!! Lol

  • OMG yes.

I bled all through the first half of this pregnancy (hemorrhage, but it resolved itself) and my doctor recommended that I use pads instead of tampons. It was awful. And now that the bleeding is gone, I have so much discharge, I HAVE to wear pantyliners (at least.)

I have sensitive skin anyway, and my doctor had prescribed a mild steroid cream way back when. I use it maybe every other day and go without undies at night a few nights a week. It's made a big difference.

  • After I had my DD, I got some irritation from just wearing a pad constantly- like diaper rash almost. I made sure to change the pad constantly and keep the area dry as much as possible, which is hard with all the pp bleeding. I never had to break out the desitin, though. :)

  • Stop using liners. Sometimes the problem is the adhesive, not the actual material that comes in contact with your skin.

Just change your underwear a couple times a day, you'll be much better off.

  • I have the same problem. I did have an infection at one point in the pregnancy, so it is definitely worth having your doctor check in case that might be part of the problem (I was extra irritated during that point). Regardless of that infection, I haven't ever been able to wear liners or pads for too long without a lot of irritation. Try going without if you can for a few days. OR wearing cloth pads/liners for a bit does help as well. Good luck!
  • Skip the feminine wash. Just warm water & a gentle soap, if anything.

Do you shave or wax completely? You might try some Destin or A&D ointment. It's the same stuff for diaper rash, but can provide skin protecting.

Also, at night try to go commando. The more your vulva & surrounding skin have air circulation the better.

  • You basically have diaper rash.  It's very normal when you have to wear a pad or liner for any length of time.  Air it out as much as possible and use A & D ointment to prevent it going forward.  You may get it again after you deliver because you'll be wearing a pad for a while for the PP bleeding.  I would start out using A&D right away (NOT on any areas that might be torn/have stitches) to prevent it.
