bumbo seats

Can someone tell me what the appropriate age for a bumbo seat is? We got ours for DD#1 when she was about 4 months. DD#2 never cared for it, so it was rarely used.

I'm curious because a girl on FB is asking about them and her baby is 1 week old. She said she read you can use them at 4 weeks old. I know that is way off, but just can't remember the recommended age.

    Wow, 4 weeks old? That is way too young. I think they are meant for babies 4-8 months or so.

    The baby needs to be able to support itself - 4 weeks is waaaay too young. I think Dagny was about 4 months when we got our out.

    I thought 4 months was about right and that's what I told her. She's a very young mother (although this is #3). I'd rather politely educate her than let her unintentionally hurt her baby.

    We were really hesitant to put LO in the bumbo even though he had good head control, I feel like we waited several months.

    On the flip side, he just saw it in the closet a couple of days ago and begged to sit in it. How old is too old? Haha

    I told the new mom 4 months or so. I also told her that her lo needs to be able to support herself, but not to over use it because it can hinder proper development. She was very gracious. I tried to put it as nicely as possible, not an "I'm a better mom than you" type of thing.

    I didn't put DS in his until he was 4 months or so, just before he could sit up unsupported. My friend put her 1 month old in a Bumbo and spoon fed her rice cereal; I just kept my mouth shut.
