Another thrush question

Sorry for the annoying/repetitive post but can someone please describe thrush boob/nipple pain? I read the shooting glass thing but don't really get it and can't tell anything from google.

Baby and I don't have any other symptoms but I've had pretty bad boob and nipple shooting pain the past couple days. I don't know if it's just a blister or irritated from feeding.

I can't wait for the day when my boobs and nipples don't run my life.

Re: Another thrush question

  • The shooting pain will be deep in your breast;  shooting pain isn't always present if the yeast hasn't spread to the milk ducts.  You can just experience nipple pain.  Are your nipples pink, red, shiny, flaky?  Any of the above?  Does LO have any white patches in her mouth or a diaper rash?

  • She had a little rash a couple weeks ago but it went away and nothing again. The white in her mouth looks like milk, no raised bumps or anything. I'll try to scrape it again when she wakes up. The shooting pain is kind of all over and maybe feels itchy? One nipple is pink but it doesn't look abnormal but shit, I don't remember what my "normal" boobs look like anymore...

    Amen.

I thought I was getting thrush but am starting to feel better so maybe not?  @AmyG*?  Any input?  I only used a vinegar rinse one time so I know that didn't treat it.  Is it possible it can go away without treatment?  Or was it likely I didn't even have it?  I'll still call the doc on Monday but I'm just curious.

  • Thank you gals so much. @AmyG* no pain when feeding or during let down. She will feed fine, no fussing and doesn't look like she's in pain. It will be afterwards where it feels kind of painful/itchy. Can you rule out thrush with no pain during feedings and/or letdown?

Is there a specific ratio for a vinigar rinse?
Also is there a medical test for thrush? Like a blood test?
  • How can I tell the difference between painful letdown and thrush? No nipple pain. No itching..just wondering.

  • @soozerella, I've had this same forceful/uncomfortable letdown with all 3 girls. Never had md or LC ever say it could be thrush....

  • I would say I have an abundant supply. I can EBF Nola and at least once a day pump anywhere from 5-10oz. She rarely sputters or chokes unless she's sleepy.

  • @crunchmama11 Yes, that's it. I guess maybe milk filling up. That's what I'll tell people when I'm grabbing my boobs then ;).

    Thanks for all the help!
