question for any ''outdoorsy'' ladies

DH and I are big outdoorsy people. And its now ice fishing season. I dont want to be one of those that gives up everything while pregnant, but I am very hesitant with this. I have clamps that go one my boots so I dont slip (i think im fine as im only 6w4d, baby is tucked safely in still).  the thing Im questioning whether its safe or not is being so cold, I pile on 8 layers of clothing and still freeze. We have a shanty with a propane heater (propane in small enclosure, also makes me worry) and at night trying to sleep, Im still freezing, and never get much sleep. so I was curious if anyone has and thoughts or advice. Im sure its a shot in the dark but figured I'd ask anyways... @Bpaws any advice?!

please and thank you ladies!!

Re: question for any ''outdoorsy'' ladies

  • (Coming out of lurking to post this. I mean, uh... I just found this board. Yup.)

I hate ice fishing with DH even when I'm not pregnant, but I think you're fine.  When I lived in Wyoming, we did fieldwork most of the winter and my pregnant boss was always fine.  I'm stuck doing outside fieldwork in Wisconsin now for the next 6 weeks or so with no shelter, and I'm planning to make no changes...in fact, I'm kind of excited to hide first tri bloat behind Carhartt coveralls instead of office clothes :)  Not sure about the propane...that makes me nervous regardless.  I don't think it'd hurt to try it once and see how you weather it?  Good luck!

  • My DH is a huge ice fisherman as well, and we were actually going to go out this weekend. He bought a different heater to use (it wasn't propane) because that was one of his biggest concerns. Also, make sure you figure out your "potty" situation before you head out. If you are peeing as much as I was during my pregnancy you will definitely need to bring a bucket for your hut or some other potty. No lie - I was going to invest in a Shewee

  • thanks ladies! I am safe this weekend, as our plans changed, but next weekend is a huge tournament that I can't get out of! as long as we win some $$ I'll be good! I have my first apt. Tuesday, so I'll be sure to ask my dr.

@bpaws, Sorry you didnt catch anything, that doesn't make it fun! Lol, but there is still time! We do have those hand and feet warmers which are life saving out there on the ice, but the nights are most definitely the worst. And as for peeing, I have become a master at peeling 8-9 layers of clothing off to pee in a cup!! LOL (i earned the nick name ''Tinkles'' as I always had to pee, so now I am truly living up to that name!
