Fur babies sleeping in the pack n' play.

One week until EDD and we set up the pack n' play downstairs today. It's one of those that has a sort of upper level where you can have the baby sleep while it's still small. I figured the cats would be curious, and sure enough they both jumped right in, snuggled in and fell asleep. I don't know if it's best to just let them get their curiosity about it out of their systems or to discourage them from getting in the habit of sleeping in there. I just worry about them jumping up in there once LO is there. However, I think trying to keep them out is going to be an extreme uphill battle. Any other cat owners out there with suggestions? How did your cats handle the arrival of the baby and were there any problems?

I would discourage it. I've heard of using aluminum foil to discourage them from wanting to jump in.

My cats sleep in the crib and rock n play...... but don't go near them if the baby is in them.I get irritated by the fur, but that's it.

Eta and my cats really like the baby. I had him laying in my bed this morning for an hour and one started grooming his flaking head.

but cute.... to keep them off counters/scratching couch I've always used spray bottles and make big hissing noises. They dont do it around me but I know they do it when I'm not watching.

I have a cat and I set up the PNP last month and surprisingly she has no interest in it. Then again I have a few weeks before my EDD and, who knows, she may be interested when DS arrives. Either way, I'd discourage it. I usually use a water bottle.

With DS we put cardboard in his crib with a bunch of double sided tape (the kind intended for cats, nothing too sticky or they'd lose fur) on it. They quickly learned they didn't like that and stayed out of crib. This time I will probably just lock them out mostly but I may do that or the foil again. Foil didn't seem to deter them last time though.

We didn't want our cat thinking those areas were his, so we put balloons in the PnP because generally cats are afraid of balloons, and he sniffs the RnP, but doesn't like the fact that it moves when he tries to get in. If he did get in it, I'd probably put foil in it to deter him.

Our cats think all the baby stuff is for them. We've been chasing them out of the crib, PnP, etc. and have tried to increase their interest in places we want them (like the cat tower) with new toys and treats. It seems to be working but once LO is here I'm sure that will change as they are curious, social, and cuddly cats!
