Witching hour hell

I swear the witching hour is going to drive me insane. I know fussiness/crying peaks at 6 weeks but holy hell. Every night like clockwork my sweet day baby becomes crazy in the evening. Anyone else?

  • Yep every night at 11pm without fail, she's fussing crying for no reason. Not a serious cry either, just a "hold me and bounce me and don't you dare set me down" cry
    Welcome Lily Anna!

  • Same here. Raegan's is 5-8ish as well. Right when daddy gets home.
  • 9pm-1am like clockwork.

  • Yeah we are between 5-8pm as well but it has actually gotten better. My little man is almost 7 weeks old, he for sure cluster feeds. Instead of every 3 hours it's every 1 hour but not as bad. I was able to let someone else hold him last night. Up until recently he would scream during that time if anyone else held him during that time, even hubby.
  • 9-11pm/ midnight.
    My brain is tired.

  • I was going through this so bad with Archer. For weeks every night at 10 pm like clockwork he would start crying for no reason and it would take until 12 or 1 to calm him and get him down. Now that he's almost 8 weeks it really is getting better I promise. He still has a fussy period usually but a little gripe water and an hour of patience and we can usually get him down now.

  • Yup 9-1. So much fussiness!!!
  • 8-11pm for us- I better not have anything else I want to do but feed, burp and hold her. Gripe water hasn't seemed to help yet :/

  • So much fussiness lately I don't even know what time it's at!

  • It seemed to be 1am-7am for about a week for us. Then for about 4 days it was all day and all night with tiny naps her and there. It has definitely gotten better in the last week though. So things do get better!

  • 12-3 every. night.
  • Yes, it starts at 5pm and the end time changes every night. DS1 is almost 2 and still has a witching hour. Some days I'm so happy when H gets home from work that I could cry.

  • @gweiners I use gripe water every night and I told my husband I feel guilty, like I'm drugging her. Parenting at its finest x 2.

Don't feel guilty. It's not medicated. Gripe water and gas drops saved our lives with DS1. He was colicky and gassy. We went through so many bottles. I actually said something to his pedi because we were using it so much and he said it was fine. Hang in there!

  • Yup.  Same here.  Usually starts around 7 or 8 pm and lasts until 11 or 12.  Hardest part of my day because I'm trying to get DD1 to settle down for the night (which is a chore in itself) and DH doesn't get come from work until 10:30-11 pm.

  • @n8swife Thanks!! She doesn't even cry that much, it's just the typical baby night time melt down. She could be screaming bloody murder and then I'll give her gripe water and she will stare at us with these wide eyes and just stop. Since she likes it, I keep doing it!

  • Last night from 5:30pm-midnight. Lots and lots of crying. Only stopped when boob was served up or mommy cuddles versus daddy cuddles which kills me because I want DH to have time with LO since he has been working nonstop lately :(
  • I dread nights, sucks, and poor DH comes home from work to a fussy little baby and is sad

Add me to the witching hour club. Every night at midnight til about 2. Gripe water and has drops help momentarily but not for more than 30 minutes. White noise and the rockabye station on pandora have been the best tools so far.

  • About 7-12 for us. It's hard! E screams if he's set down at all and gripe water and gas drops only help for a short time.  We cycle through all our soothing techniques several times.  I'm mentally exhausted when DF finally gets home around 1am.

  • Our LO has decided the midnight feeding til 7am was a great time to be very awake and then very upset. Fixed it last night. Turns out if we swaddle then put him in the swing with the music and white noise he is super happy and relaxed. Then he falls asleep between feedings.
  • She is fussy from 9-1 but after that sleeps till 12 without problems. Her poor tummy keeps her up

  • 8-11 and it's draining. I do everything I can think of over and over and by the time he passes out I'm too exhausted to anything but fall asleep wherever I am (usually the couch).

  • Mine's crazy all damn day.
  • 7-11 over here. I started drawing up a full dose of gripe water and just giving a drop or so at a time to keep her focused on the paci so she can calm down and get it under control. That seems to help some, but it's still such a hard time when really nothing helps!
