Back story: I'm 39w4d and fell asleep on the couch on my side yesterday afternoon. When I woke up I was having some pain in my left breast, which I thought was just caused by sleeping with my bra on. So in the middle of the night last night I kept waking up with the chills. I checked myself out this morning in the mirror and i noticed some redness from my armpit to my nipple. Called my doctor's office and the on call attending said it sounds oddly like mastitis. She started me on antibiotics until I can go in and see someone on Monday morning. I've been taking Tylenol and alternating hot/cold compresses.
Wondering if anyone has heard of this or has any experience with it? Will this cause any issues when baby comes and tries to breastfeed?
Re: mastitis during pregnancy?
Hope you feel better soon!
My OB actually said NOT to pump when I got it. It may have helped a bit with the infection but I think there are some studies that show pumping can at times be too much stimulation for induction of labor and cause tetanic contractions and problems with baby's heart rate. She said pumping while in third tri should only be done under doctors supervision unless you are "used" to it (as in tandem nursing).
I appreciate everyone's feedback!
