Placenta Previa

Hi all. I don't post here a lot but I'm active almost daily....I'm wondering if anyone has experienced placenta previa before? I was diagnosed on Wed, (I'm 17 weeks) and had a huge bleed yesterday. Soaked my pajamas and sheets. Baby is ok but it feels so awful to keep bleeding. Does it stop and go? Bleed as it moves up? Any input would be great. Thanks

You can bleed the entire pregnancy as long as it's over the cervix. If it migrates up past the cervix, the bleeding should subside. I'm sure they told you you need to be on pelvic rest with this (no intercourse)! So sorry you're dealing with this. Bleeding can be scary.

How scary! My girlfriend had partial previa her entire pregnancy. Be careful lifting...especially if you've got another kid. The lifting restriction often means your other kids are too heavy.

Thanks ladies. I had an US yesterday and my dr was supposed to call and talk about it and never did:( so I'm limiting my lifting but I do have a 22lb, 2 year old. Blood is still there and you're right, it's so unsettling. No sex and we are moving tomorrow!!!! What timing. Thanks for all the input as seeing blood when you are pregnant is scary no matter what. Xo

I was diagnosed with previa at my NT scan. I had one bleed before then (the day before Thanksgiving) and one bleed 2 weeks ago. My doctor put me on pelvic rest, and said other than that just to use caution. I still lift my daughter and the other 2 little girls I nanny, I just do it less. I have my a/s in 2 weeks and am hopeful that it will move by then. I'm sorry you are going through this. The bleeding is terrifying. Not having sex is sucky. The chances of it moving are pretty high though, so hopefully none of us have it to the very end!

This is the exact same as me. I had a SCH and bled from 6wk-11wks. I was diagnosed with previa at 15 weeks and was told if I have any bleeding go straight to the ER. I'll be 22 weeks on Tuesday and no movement for me as of yet

I go every 2 weeks for cervix checks (not related) so I get to keep track of the lack of movement of the placenta.

If you are bleeding I would not be picking anything up over 5lbs until your bleeding stops. I was put on 15lb restriction but I'm not bleeding.

I had this with DD, started at 14 weeks and was bleeding brown blood for the remainder of the pregnancy. The initial bleed was bad and I was certain that I was miscarrying. I took it really easy for the rest of the pregnancy and the placenta moved away from my cervix on its own. Now I have a healthy and happy 3 year old

I don't think I'm overstepping boundaries since you posted about it, but why are you having cervical checks every 2 weeks?

I don't think I'm overstepping boundaries since you posted about it, but why are you having cervical checks every 2 weeks?

I have the cervical checks from having 3 D&Cs from my previous losses.

Do you ladies that have placenta previa know the degree? Like marginal, low lying, complete? Just curious so I have something to compare. I have complete and had a SCH at 8 weeks and my big bleed yesterday at almost 17 weeks. Bleeding is less today but hopin for none. Thanks for talking me through this....all the experience is reassuring

I haven't had any bleeding at all but was also just diagnosed (if that's the right term) with one - low lying (measured less than 2cm from cervix) OB says there's a chance it will move with uterus expansion but if it doesn't I'll have to have a c-section. I was told to nix any heavy lifting already. And have another u/s scheduled for 28 weeks. Good luck to you!

Hi! I used to post here but now I just lurk. TB was taking over my life when I was posting.

I had placenta previa with DS. I was diagnosed during my a/s and was put on pelvic rest and no other restrictions, but I was told not to exercise other than walking. I bled 3 times after that. The first time I was put in the hospital overnight and put on modified bedrest (I could still move around and do things but no lifting, housework, driving, etc.) The 2nd bleed (34 weeks) I was hospitalized until the end of pregnancy. At 35 weeks I bled again while in the hospital and DS was delivered. Mine was a complete previa. This was my doctor's policy: 1st bleed- bedrest, 2nd bleed- hospital, 3rd bleed- deliver. Sounds like other docs might be a little different. Make sure you tell them about your previa if you have to go into triage for something. They are not supposed to check your cervix with fingers. Mine was only checked with ultrasound or speculum exam. Sorry this is kinda long but I hope it was helpful.
