Milk Tansistion?

Our pedi told us to start transistioning him around 11 months, basically to offer an ounce or two a few times a week with snacks. He is already on the toddler formula and does great with that. However he has zero interest in milk, he would rather have water.

So, how long did this take? I know it can be a while, I am just wondering. Also, did you find that organic vs normal made a difference? We are going with organic.

  • I have no answer either, but was wondering what others had to say.  My Dr actually suggested doing it at 9ish months (DD is underweight, so she thinks that'll help), but we've held off (I'm already having to push solids, and don't need another thing on my plate).

Are you offering it in a sippy?  Does your DC usually take a lot of water from the sippy?

  •  I have offered it in the sippy and a bottle, I figured it was worth a shot. He drinks water in a sippy and will drink a lot of it.

I posted on the toddler board as well, I will post any good answers later.

  • With my now 2 1/2 year old, I didn't do it slowly and it worked great.  At 11 months, we took away her daytime bottles and gave her whole milk (organic or at least the kind made with no hormones) in a sippy cup with her meals and at snack times.  She never missed her 2 daytime bottles.  When I used up the rest of my formula within a few days of her being 11 months, we simply took away the bottles and gave her a sippy of milk in the morning and at bedtime and she was totally fine.  One suggestion I was given and what we did for a few days was to put a small amount of YoBaby yogurt in the milk so it flavored it a little.  I just put about a teaspoon in for a day or two and then put less and less for a few days and it worked great.
