Anterior Placenta Moms

So at my appt I confirmed what I had thought, I have an anterior placenta, not a big deal except it makes it harder to feel baby move ( one of the best parts of pregnancy IMO)

So just wondering for other anterior placenta moms, are you feeling movement yet? and if you have had this with past pregnancies when did you start to feel baby?

Re: Anterior Placenta Moms

  • I have an anterior placenta, am 19 weeks today and just started feeling flutters two days ago.  I hope to feel more soon, but realize it might be well after 20 weeks until I feel definite kicks.

  • This is my first and I have an anterior placenta. I can feel her really low when I lay perfectly still once and a while. Not much though and I'm 19 wks 2 days

  • I'll join the club! Mine's anterior, I'm kind of bummed about that because I have been really, really looking forward to feeling the kicks. I actually did start feeling a little movement last week (18 weeks) but I think I'm feeling just the major rolls and flips (and only a handful of times), and not really any kicks.

I've done some googling and one consolation that somebody mentioned was that we might not get woken up as much in the middle of the night when the baby decides to have a dance party. I'd still prefer to feel the baby moving more, but I'm trying to look for positives.

  • I'm 20 weeks with an anterior placenta, and I *think* I've been starting to feel movement. It started probably last week, but it was so occasional that I kept telling myself it must be those gas bubbles everyone compares the kicks to, but the past day or two it has been getting much more consistent. For the past 25 minutes or more I've been feeling it every minute or two, so at this point I'm pretty positive it is movement. It's very exciting! I am hoping it gets more prominent soon because even though I'm feeling it, it's still very faint.

  • I've felt some flutters for the last few weeks.  I had an AP with my first as well and felt movement around 19 weeks or so.  My last pregnancy wasn't AP and really the biggest difference was the intensity - not much difference in the amount I felt or timing.
  • Thanks everyone, I *think* I've been feeling "something" maybe flutters, but not sure of it's baby or gas ( you'd think by now, this is #3 I could tell the difference) anyways, just seeing "about" how long I have till I can actually feel this little girl kick.

  • I had it last time, and again this time. Don't worry, you'll definitely feel movement!

Last time I didn't feel movement until about 20-22 weeks. It was a little disappointing since STM usually feel it sooner, but the anterior placenta explained it. This time I felt definite movement at 16/17 weeks and now at 20, I feel a lot. The only issue I noticed this time was that It made it a little tricky to find the h/b early on. I was suspicious of an anterior placenta for that reason when I had trouble with my home Doppler, and that was confirmed at my NT scan. She said it's fully anterior, but like I said, I can feel movement for sure.

  • Mine is anterior as well. I am feeling flutters a couple times a day when I am sitting still and every once in a while I feel something a little more noticeable that will stop me from what I am doing. I started feeling the flutters last week and wasn't sure exactly what it was, but since then it has continued and has gotten stronger, so I am pretty sure I am feeling baby.

  • Our baby A has an anterior placenta and I have a hard time feeling his movement and I can't say I have actually felt it yet, but I do hear it is normal!

  • Anterior placenta here too! I'm a FTM and am 19w5d and have not felt her yet, but I'm not surprised. Hoping to feel the flutters within the next couple weeks.

    Hang in there!
  • FTM almost 16 weeks, nada yet.

  • Well at least I'm not alone :)

Hopefully we all will be really feeling LO by 22-24wks, I know it will be here before we know it, but as another post mentioned, time seems to stand still sometimes when you're pregnant.

Although I know from experience, afterwards it seems like it went too fast... I suppose you can never win...

  • I too have an anterior placenta, and was just wondering if it causes problems during delivery?
  • @Mrs.Rivera I don't believe so, something like placenta previa would be more of a concern, but in this instance the placenta is just on the anterior wall of the uterus as opposed to a side or the back (posterior) wall...

at least that's my understanding, fellow bumpies please correct me if I'm wrong

I agree. I asked last time and was told the only placement if the placenta that's a problem for delivery would be if it was blocking the birth canal, so anterior is fine.

  • Thank you girls, I appreciate the response to my question!
  • FTM 19 weeks 2 days. Anterior placenta too. No movement. Hopefully soon!
  • Got "stuck" with this both pregnancies. Felt movement with DD around 20 weeks. The day of our A/S actually. With Squish I started feeling movement around 18 weeks.

  • This is a little late, but I was wondering if any of you who have an AP, have to have a C-section. I'm going to ask my doctor about it at my next appt, but I was just curious to know if having a CS with an AP would be a problem?

^ I don't know the answer to your question but I'm glad you started this thread up again. I've got the anterior placenta too. I just hit 20 weeks. I can feel faint kicks when they are really low but it's about once a day if that. When will my husband be able to feel kicks from the outside (in your experiences)?

I most likely will have to have a c section, depending how the girls cooperate. The AP shouldn't be a problem.

17 weeks now, still feel nuttin!

  • I have one this time. I started to feel movement very low around 16 weeks (this is my 2nd pregnancy) and then never really got a good kick until recently. This morning my husband felt her for the first time, but only once. I'm 20 weeks 2 days today. I feel her, but it's not often. My doc said that it's normal and I should start to feel more frequent movements very soon. Can't wait!

  • AP here too. I have felt movement since last week, more consistent this week but still not every day all day. Can't wait to feel stronger baby!

  • Thanks for trying. I guess I will just have to wait until I can ask my Dr. and do some more Googling.

On another note, I have been feeling very light movements maybe a couple times, every other day or so. Sometimes I'm still not sure if its LO.

  • I forgot to mention that I have to have a section. The location of my AP isn't in the way so my Doc said there was absolutely nothing to worry about. My cut is very, very low.
