Question/worry: triplets vanishing twin syndrome effects.

hello ladies, i'm hoping i could find some wisdom and few positive stories to help keep me sane through this journey.

info is my siggy, had my 3rd IVF that resulted in a BFP finally... with twins! now today was supposed to be our final u/s with RE before being graduated to my OB. but on the ultrasound they found that one of the embryos split and theres 2 yolks in one sac. the 3rd embryo is growing much slower and couldnt detect a strong hb. RE says it will most likely not make it and i'll either bleed or it will be reabsorbed. i'm going back for another check in 2 weeks to make sure everything still looks ok.

RE shared information about how identical twins with a vanishing twin can possibly be indicative of an abnormality with the healthy embryo thats in the same sac. considering they both have the same genetic makeup, the reason for the 3rd embryo's halt in growth could mean that its identical twin could have the same abnormal chromosomes or it could either mean the the 3rd embryo just had a growth abnormality and isnt related to a genetic defect or illness.

i dont know if this is the right section to even be posting. im sorry. i might post this on 1st tri boards as well because i know this could also apply to a woman carrying a now singleton pregnancy from what was a vanishing twin and that same scenario can come into play if they were once identical twins.

i was just wondering if any of you had similar stories to share. thanks for listening!

Re: Question/worry: triplets vanishing twin syndrome effects.

  • Mine wasn't the same as I had two sacs di/di - but i was told that one baby would m/c and be absorbed. The heartbeat was way behind the other and it's size/sac was much smaller. I had a weekly sonogram and each week the dr dropped the odds of m/c. Now at 11 weeks that baby is bigger! Go figure. There are good stories out there for all the bad I read! Pray, fight for that baby! T&Ps to you and your little growing souls.
    It's a boy and a girl!

  • I had 4 in separate sacs and baby D sadly did not make it I had a few hours of bleeding but that was it. I was able to carry the other 3 top term no complications from it. Not as good of new but your other 2 can be ok

  • My twins were originally triplets.  Baby C did not make it. Baby B was smaller and for a while we were worried that B wouldn't make it.  Both A and B are healthy,  happy 8 month olds now. B is smaller than A, but that's because A is freaking huge (27lbs and 35" @ 8months).  Take care of yourself and your babies. Hope everything works out for the best.

  • In the 6 years I've been the parent of identical multiples, I have never heard that. I would not let that weigh too heavily on you. Good luck!
