Question for moms of girls - body parts

What are you calling a vagina, for your daughter to use? I know it's important to use "proper" words for various reasons, but I just can't call it a vagina with a straight face, partly because your visible bits aren't your vagina.

I grew up with "fanny" which I know is used differently in the US, but that word gives me the heebie jeebies. My husband is no use because his family did NOT talk about things like that.

My husband and I use "bits" but I don't think that's appropriate. My friend uses "secret no-no place" which I think is hysterical.

Good question. I know it's easier said than done, but I am going to try using proper anatomical terminology (with baby girl in utero) and see how that goes. DH will probably think I am being silly and may want to use a euphemism, but if I am using the word penis to describe Henry's genitals, I will want to use similar terms for baby girl's genitals. Differentiating, I think, teaches her that HERS are shameful somehow.

Try just using the word "genitals" until you can work up to using other words. Otherwise, maybe "privates"? I agree that "no no place" isn't the best way to go -- It's just part of her body, after all.

I'm sorry - "secret no no place" literally made me LOL. That is just silly. 1- it's not a secret, it's a body part. 2- what exactly is the no-no about it?
We say girl parts right now. Later will work on specifics.

We call it her twinkle, hahaha. We call our sons either his doodles or his peepee. She will prob end up calling it her peepee because of him. We don't really care, we just think twinkle is funny XD

To clarify on the secret no-no place: this friend relates how she went to hospital when she was in labour "and the nurse stuck her hand in my secret no-no place!" said with such indignation. By that stage in pregnancy no place was secret or no-no.

So it wasn't a term she was suggesting for a little girl.

The idea of a grown woman referring to her own genitalia as a secret no no place is hilarious to me. Really odd. But hilarious. I don't think I could have had that discussion with her and not ask " dude, WTF? It's your VAGINA. Not a secret".

We use vagina with dd1 I'm sure we will do the same with dd2. Dd1 calls it bagina lol.

Omg @BandEddie Alice too! I have actually wondered on more than one occasion if she had a UTI. But I decided it was just a fun new discovery.
