baby grunting

Ok I am on mobile and tried to search if this has been discussed before. ....

My 4 weeks old has recently started grunting and making lots of WEIRD noises at night. It's so loud it keeps me up. Last two nights it's been all night long off and on. She's not crying , but she'll lift her legs , get red faced and grunt. She doesn't appear to be in pain.

She has always pooped fine. She has been gassy before but usually just farts.
She's always been loud ,feeds loudly too with grunts and whimpers , but this middle.of the night loud grunting is making me even more tired.

Any other babies out there that sound like they belong in a barn ?

Re: baby grunting

  • Yup. My LO does this all night long. I'm finally starting to be able to tune it out somewhat.

  • Yup! M makes a dolphin sound, lots of 'oooohhhsss' and grunts a lot. I just do it back to him :)
  • The squirming, red faced and grunting sounds like gas. If good burpings and leg bicycling don't help you can try gas drops.
  • She grunts and moans all night

  • Same here!
  • Yup my lo does this too. I am so beyond sleep deprived!
  • Yeah my baby grunts too and sometimes sounds like she's snoring too lol IV learn to tune it out and she doesn't cry when she's upset she just lets this little scream out that sounds like an upset kitty lol
  • I call mine the window cleaner because it sounds like a squeaky squidgy being pulled across glass. With a few grunts thrown in. Much better now I sleep in a different room
  • Yup. It gets better. Jack is 10w old and grunts less than he did at 4 weeks for sure. His was due to gas from a cows milk allergy. He's FF, so we had to switch to Nutramigen to help with that. Big improvement ever since.

  • Oh yes. She isn't in pain as there's no crying or twisted face, I assume she's trying to be Houdini & get her arms out of the swaddle since she loves her hands at her face (but would keep herself awake with them). Hers is just when she is initially going to sleep. Once she is asleep she's pretty quiet, some chirping and sighs.

  • Mine is really gassy due to MSPI so we have LOTS of grunts and kicking and red faces while he works the gas out. Since he toots a few times, he'll relax and fall asleep. I hope it lessens as I work the dairy out of my system bc it just doesn't look comfy for him at all.

  • mine does this too - red faced and legs going, but if I bring her to bed with me or hold her she stops right away, so I don't know if it's gas or just a dislike of her bed...
  • I have a grunter too and I call him The Beast when he sounds like a boar. :)

  • Mine does this. I've found he's either working up a big poop or he needs to burp and he's trying to get that out.
  • Both of mine grunted and my guess is that it's due to gas. I just found out DD2 has MSPI so I'm hoping my dietary changes will reduce the gas/grunting in a couple of weeks.
