Monmouth Medical or Riverview Medical?

I was wondering if anyone had experience with either hospital for delivery?

  • Thank you for your response! I also live closer to Riverview, but my doctor is affiliated with both so I'm indecisive on which to go with. I will certainly take your experience into consideration!
  • @Mike&Teresa not to get all internet creepy on you but you post on June 2014 board, don't you?  Me too, though I mostly lurk there.
  • Yes I do! Pretty tough crowd huh?

They're not too bad.  Says the person who never posts  :\"> I regularly lurk (also rarely post) on another BMB, from when my first was born, so I'm pretty used to it.
  • Hi girls I'm also a June 2014 and I'm delivering at monnouth!!
  • FYI we were talking about river view at my yoga class this week and the instructor who is also a doula said that river view won't let women walk around there you basically get hooked up to a monitor and are encouraged to stay in bed. They also don't have birthing balls there. That said they do have a spa menu and you can get a mani, pedi, and massage during or after labor LOL!

  • @Chfschork WOW I cannot believe there are 3 of us.  If interested, I would like to stay in touch so we can share local resources, knowledge and support.

@newter135 Unfortunately I've been at Riverview (no offense to the hospital) everyday for the past month and I see those services advertised on the elevator doors and it certainly sounds nice.  As I previously mentioned there maternity is really nice, Monmouth's is not cosmetically appealing but I was pleased with my experience there.

I think I'm going to schedule a tour for both and see which I feel more comfortable with. So far Monmouth has won the votes in the many people I've asked ( although they didn't deliver at both so only have experience with Monmouth)
  • Hi ladies, I, too, am in the June 14 bmb and will most likely be delivering at Monmouth. If not there then at Jersey Shore. I delivered my now 3 year old at Riverview. Only complaint about there is I was there in the mist of renovation so was walking around lots of hanging tarps and stuff. If you get a room with view of the river, it's beautiful!

  • I delivered my 11 year old at Monmouth. I had pre eclampsia in my 9th month and needed to be induced. I was in there for 5 days after delivering because my bp was out of control. They took great care of me!

  • I delivered my lo at Riverview in the fall. I loved my nurses and all of the staff that I worked with. I felt very safe and well taken care of. I had an uncomplicated delivery, though my labor was quite complicated. My dr and my nurse respected my wishes and although a c section was discussed they worked with me to have the vaginal delivery that I wanted.

Riverview does not provide birthing balls but you are allowed to bring one with you if you want one.

@mike&teresa Although I live closer to Riverview, I delivered my first at Monmouth and plan on delivering my second there also.  Riverview's maternity is much nicer & very updated, appearance wise.  Riverview, however, does not have a NICU and statistically they have a high C-section rate.  I didn't expect to need NICU but lo-and-behold my son spent his first couple of days in Monmouth's NICU and they were excellent.  Overall I was very pleased with Monmouth.
I delivered LO Dec 13 at Monmouth Medical and had a great experience. My OB is affiliated with MM and Jersey Shore, but we were encouraged to go to Monmouth for the same reasons, even though it was a little farther. The doulas at the birthing classes I attended echoed all these reasons as well, especially the C-section rate.
  • PSA: 70% off maternity at Babies R' Us

All Thyme maternity clothes are 70% off, at least at my BRU (Eatontown). This included nursing bras and tanks. Bras were very limited but there was still a lot of tanks, maternity shirts and pants. I got all my items for less than $10 each.
  • Oh wow! I wish I would have checked on here sooner! I was just at BRU on Saturday! I was registering so my mind was elsewhere but if I would have known I would have looked at some things! Thanks for the heads up!
