Allergy and diaper rash

My son was out on Nutrimagin last month due to FTT. He was EBF but was the same weight at 4 months that he was at 2 months so the pedi wanted us to supplementing. He was on Similac Sensitive but was having mucus in his diapers and spitting up a lot more so the Pedi switched him. But ever since he has been put on formula he has stayed with a diaper rash. The Pedi said it's not a sign of an allergy but I think it is. He doesn't show any signs of having a allergy (my other two kids were on Neocate, I know what to expect from MSPI). I haven't switched any products either. He is 12 lbs 10 oz at 5 1/2 months.

Could it be a sign of an milk/soy allergy?

Re: Allergy and diaper rash

  • More like a burn/blisters, its big round spots. I doesn't look a rash(small spots)

  • My daughter has a milk protein allergy, and until we figured out what it was, she had a completely raw bum (like you describe - blistering). We ended up finding relief by mixing (I ended up making batches in a small tupperware) equal parts Aquaphor, Neosporin and Desitin at our pedi's suggestion. That, along with change in diet and leff frequent BM, finally had her feeling better. Good luck.

  • What brand of diapers are you using?  We had this until we figured out she was allergic to most diapers.  To test it we switched to 7th gen for a week.  Cleared right up.

We found walgreens diapers, kroger diapers, 7th gen, whole foods and other "natural" brands were fine.. huggies (most - of them anyway) and all pampers caused the rash.

  • They put him on a different formula and it went away.
