In-Home Daycare Questions

What types of questions do I need to ask in-home daycare providers? Is there a way for them to be licensed and insured? References? Just want to make sure there aren't big things I'm missing, because I don't know how it all works. Unfortunately I don't have any mom-friends in the area to get references from.

ETA: I found this (https://www.babycenter.com/0_home-daycare-provider-interview_1452147.bc) which looks like a pretty good list.

Re: In-Home Daycare Questions

  • Ask about their license, courses they have taken (cpr/sids prevention/etc.), how long they have been in business, what a typical day is like, who has access to the home, refs, cost, pick up/drop up off times, sick child/vacs policy...
    hope those help!

  • I'd ask if they have any professional training as well. I have training in naeyc, laup, Montessori, and CLASS. Or just ask their philosophy as far as childcare.
  • Along with philosophy is ask about discipline too.
  • Ask to see their clearances. The criminal and child abuse clearances.
  • Ask about their sick child policy. Also their policy on sick, vacation, and snow days.

You also want to call the state agency to confirm their license is current and that they have passed all in home inspections.
