Team Greenies: How do you refer to baby? He/She, They, whatever you're feelin' that day?

Team Greenies: How do you refer to baby? He/She, They (for 1), whatever you're feelin' that day? I recently used "they" with a singular antecedent in a fb post and the grammar police came patrolling. I find saying he/she annoying. What do you do? Are you a grammar policewoman ;)

EDIT: to add I don't really like using "it" (just sounds like some weird alien or a clown in there) and when I say "he" or "she" people assume we know the sex...

I use he/she because it's grammatically correct!

I say they, because really who cares? We're talking about more interesting things like the bebe

I switch it up depending on how I feel today.

I only use "he" or only use "she" because that's what we are hoping for...

  • I want a boy! We are waiting. I always refer to my LO as he. People get excited when I say 'he' because they think we know the sex. Then I say 'oh no we are waiting. We're just hoping' lol the look I get is priceless. I don't feel the need to know. It's fun to have everyone guess. The people closest to me are having the toughest time not knowing.

  • Like @lalala8 we say "it" or "the baby." Also voted for "they" but don't actually use that.

  • I say the baby or she. I only use she because that is how my 3yo daughter refers to the baby, and it has kind of stuck.
  • Like @lalala8 we say "it" or "the baby." Also voted for "they" but don't actually use that.
So say how would you fill in this sentence. "The baby is doing fine. ______ has been kicking me a lot lately?" I hate calling them/he/she  "It." haha

Um.. I call it "it" or "baby".

Hell, I still call my 3 year old "it" sometimes (as a joke, but still...) :)

ETA: I voted "they" because that was the closest, but I never say "they" specifically

This is us, too. I feel bad saying it, but I do.

It's an 'it'. But, I picked he/she because I sometimes do that too.

Never they. The word nerd in me won't let me. I don't care of this is becoming more acceptable in every day language. It's wrong. There's only one baby in there!

Edit because I hate finding basic grammatical mistakes in my own writing...

  • I'm no longer a Team Greenie (I didn't have the willpower to keep it going), so I didn't vote. But when we didn't know the sex of the baby, we referred to him as "the baby". It always irked me when DH would say "it", and we didn't use "he/she", since we didn't know. "The baby" was a safe reference. :)

I guess I'd say "It" right there? I feel kinda bad but then I get over it pretty quick haha. I don't think babies care what we call them while they're swimming around in their happy place. We'll use the correct pronoun when the time comes :)

  • I usually say baby.

"Baby measured great at the ultrasound!"  or "It's baby's fault I ate that ice cream."

    Sometimes I say Ninja Baby.

"Ninja Baby likes to stay perfectly still then spring out and kick without warning."

I try not to say it or refer to it by he/she because people freak out. I try to say baby J or the baby, but I slip up.
This is what I do too (but with a different last initial)!

  • I'm not team green this time around but with DS I called him Logan/Hannah, the two names we liked at the time, or if I was talking and referring to the baby I usually just said the baby.
