I know that there are some moms of babies with helmets. I had a questions. My son was fitted for his helmet on Thursday. We did 2 days of transitions and yesterday he started wearing it 23 hours a day. This morning he woke up and we did the helmet check. He had a giant red mark on his forehead. It has faded throughout the day. We left the helmet off today. This is the area that we are trying to flatten down, as it bulges out. I called the dr., but I am sure we won't hear back until tomorrow. Do I put the helmet on for tonight? Thank you for any help.
Our little girl has one. Put it on after the redness goes away no matter how long it takes. When you remove it you will most likely see a red spot for a little bit in the area you are trying to work on. Also be cautious on how warm your little one is getting. You don't want to creat a heat rash.
I guess I'm kind of late to this but my boys have been in helmets for almost 3 months. The guidelines we were given is that if the redness goes away within 20 minutes it's normal. If it lasts longer than that there might be a problem with fit. The person who fit the boys and does the monthly checks said to leave the helmet off until we got a response from them if we were concerned.

Both of these. My son wore a helmet for 4 months, if the red spot doesn't go away within 20 minutes, call the orthotist and ask for an adjustment. If it goes away in less than 20 minutes, it probably means they just turned to that side or slept on their stomach getting the same kind of red spot they'd get if they slept on their arm all night.
Hi How did you know your babies needed helmets?? One of my twins has always had an odd shaped head?
I brought it up at our 4 month appointment with the Pedi and was refered to our Children's Hospita to have a neuology specialist look at her head and she said she was a candidate for the helmet. So there was an orthodic place closer to home that they refered us too and they took meausrement and agreed that she needed the helmet. she had a flat spot on right back side of her head and on the left front (parallelagram shaped head)
