Less doctors in hospital during weekends?

Does anyone know if there are less doctors during the week or weekends in hospitals?

I want to know to see the best day if I need an induction. I'd prefer less doctors, so there is less pressure to progress.

This is not meant to sound snarky so I apologize in advance if it sounds that way, but I don't believe there is a set "best" day for induction. So many thoughts on your question such as the amount of dr.'s at the hospital is going to depend on your particular hospital so you should probably call them. Not that I'm sure it will really matter though bc doctors are generally so busy that you will be waiting on them, not them hovering around in your room. They know that you can't control your body's reaction to an induction so I don't understand why you think you would feel pressured to progress quickly. Any dr with a brain knows that labor can take a loooong time. So unless you have medical issues that they are trying to keep it speedy (which in that case it may just end up being a c/s), no need to worry about them pressuring you. Another thought your more likely to have curious residents who are anxious to learn constantly hanging out in your room than dr.'s. If you don't want them in there than just tell them that you wish to be left alone as much as possible, they should respect your wishes. No it's not snarky at all. Thank you for the straightforward honest response. I wanted to get other moms takes on this. I'm a very low risk pregnancy, all we'll medically, but facing an induction with a midwife just due to their standard to induce at 41 weeks, and was just thinking ahead. I'm 39 weeks and 3 days still though.

I guess it's not what I want at all and I'm nervous trying to plan.

Do you go to a large practice with a lot of doctors? I would ask which doctors / midwives will be at the hospital each day so that you can end up with the dr you want the most.

My practice had the midwives there more often on the weekends, and they seemed to be less hasty for interventions, so if I had to be induced I would have chosen when a midwife was there.

In general, yes there are less doctors in any given hospital on the weekends. Did you talk to your OB about when they suggest your induced? Your OB will give you options based on their schedule and/or who is on at the hospital, it's not like you can just choose to be induced whenever you want. Obviously if they start an induction with a patient, they're going to see it through regardless of when it ends (i.e. if you start Friday and deliver Saturday, the doctor will obviously be there to deliver) therefore I'm confused by "less pressure to progress." Do you think they'll induce and then leave for the weekend and check in on you on Monday?

I would be surprised if they even let you schedule the start of an induction on a weekend. Hospitals generally keep a minimum and on call staff only for weekends, for all departments. For anything that they are actually able to schedule in advance, they will probably have you schedule on a weekday.

My induction is scheduled for a Saturday at 7:30 a.m. (when my doctor is on call). It must depend on the hospital.

My induction is scheduled for next Sunday at 8pm. My hospital does them overnight (you can choose 8pm or midnight for the start of your induction). Not sure why this is, but it is the practice here.

I got induced on New Year's Eve and had Maddox in New Year's Day too. Lol it was a big holiday!
