S/O sleeping in the Ergo

DD hates the Ergo and I'm wondering if I'm doing it wrong. She liked it with the newborn insert but now she is 14 pounds and I can't get her comfy in there. What do you do with their feet? It seems like she is uncomfortable if I spread her legs too far but otherwise she puts her feet below her and tries to push herself up to a standing position.

Any good videos? I watched one on the newborn insert that was helpful but haven't found one that explains the (very basic) way to put a baby in there normally.

Re: S/O sleeping in the Ergo

  • I've only been using it for a week or so and he seems to be happy enough with his feet out the sides (below the straps). It seems a little awkward to me, but he doesn't mind it and he'd definitely try to stand if his feet were under him.

I don't know if this makes a difference but the woman in the shop taught me to snap the back together, then put it over my head (loose straps), then put in LO, then tighten straps. Maybe that could help with positioning?

  • I keep her legs in but roll a blanket up and stick it under her bottom, so she is sort of sitting in there? She doesn't seem to try to push up at all that way, might be worth a shot.

  • Yeah, try rolling up a receiving blanket or little towel to stick under lo's butt. It will raise them up a bit to make it a bit more comfy. I usually tuck dd's feet in the side of the waist belt. They rest on top, and that kind of acts like a stirrup.

  • I spread her legs so she's wrapping them around my waist.  She seems comfy enough.  She loves the Ergo, so I'm thinking it doesn't bother her....

  • Ah I like the blanket under her butt idea. It's similar to what the newborn insert provided. Thanks!

  • I learned with DS that there is a period of time when the Ergo isn't great, when they don't want their legs in and try to stand, but aren't quite big enough to be comfortable with their legs spread around your waist. It passes, and then the Ergo is awesome for a long time! I still put my 2.5 year old in it! But I haven't put my Sep13 baby in it yet, as I don't think her hips are ready to be spread that much yet. She was an end of the month baby; I'm hoping we're getting close to being ready!
