Ergo and sleeping baby

I have been wearing LO while he naps for almost an hour and a half. It's a miracle as last night was rough, but I'd like to put him down. Whenever I try to get him out though, he wakes up.

Any Ergo-using baby-wearing mamas have a tip on extracting a sleeping baby without waking them?

ETA: aaaaand, he's up. Of course. :)

Re: Ergo and sleeping baby

  • No help here.  I usually wear him on my back so I can get some stuff done.  I'd kill for a 1.5 hour nap!

I know, it really was a miracle. I should have napped myself. Thanks for the idea- I never thought about doing a back-carry!

  • I say let him sleep. I guess you could try holing him against your chest while dropping the straps down, but I'd just enjoy the nap while you can and not risk waking him.

  • I can only do it if she's dead asleep and nothing would wake her.

I've only been able to do that successfully a handful of times by keeping her wrapped in the infant insert and plopping her and the insert into the swing...she usually wakes up

Thanks for all the replies, ladies. It sounds like in general it's probably best not to risk it.

    ETA: posted early
  • Sit down and lean back so lo is resting on your chest, then undo the straps. But only try to get up off the couch again if you're brave!
    One DD born 9/23/13.
    We're one and done!
  • That's funny that you posted this, I just successfully transferred DD out of the Ergo and into her crib and she didn't wake up. Now as for how long she will actually stay asleep is a different story...

I just did what others suggested. I leaned back and undid the top straps and let the whole thing dangle around my waist while I supported her down into the crib. The Ergo is the only carrier I've been able to successfully do this with though. I can never get her out of a wrap style carrier without waking her.

    Ha! Nope she's up!

30 minutes of walking and swaying trying to get her to sleep, all for a 10 minute nap!! Oh the joys of parenthood
    :))
