Essay on being a Stay at Home Mom

I've got about a week left on my maternity leave and have been so sad and anxious about the thought of going back to work.  A friend of mine sent this to me to cheer me up.  I'm still sad about going back to work, but the essay was still a great, lighthearted, read :)

    I didn't like this article. She starts by talking about the stomach bug- umm yeah we just had it at our house and I had to clean up vomit all weekend and then go to work Monday. It sounds like she just doesn't enjoy being a mom in general.

    Well she certainly sounds unhappy with SAH. But it sounds like she was pretty unhappy with her job too...

    And her husband sounds like a douche.

    He does sound like a douche, but she sounds incredibly passive aggressive.  If DH asked me to make dinner, then said he was going to the gym, I'd tell him that I made a great meal at his request, and the rest of us were eating without him.  Instead, she's playing the martyr and b!tching about him after the fact.

    Good point! I would also tell him to get his butt out of the bathroom or bed and help me if we literally all had the flu that badly.

    You know I can light-heartedly joke about how much my kids suck certain days, but she REALLY over does it.  Like that comment about restraining herself while chopping vegetables with a butcher knife? That was stupidly over the top.  

    She sounds like she hates her life and dislikes having kids.  She is whiny and awful and I hated the article.  Everyone deals with the same things when we have kids.  Welcome to being a parent.

    If she thinks her kids are monsters, it's things like this that made them that way.

    I agree with a lot of the PPs.  I can usually laugh at blog posts or articles that joke about being a mom/having kids, but this was taking it to an extreme.

    This.  Also, there are other jobs out there.  If she didn't like hers, maybe she should have brushed up her resume and looked for other opportunities. 

    I agree with PP that her kids' attitudes and personalities are probably a reflection and result of her own.  She sounds like a very angry, unhappy woman, and I hope someday she can balance her life in a way that brings her (and her family) happiness.

    Secondary infertility success with IVF, then two losses, one at 14 weeks and one at 10 weeks, then success with IUI and then just pure, crazy luck.  Expecting our fifth in May as the result of a FET.

    Funny, however, I agree, she is a bit over the top with her criticisms/complaining. She should've told her three year old to keep herself in the bed.  No way would I get out of my bed at 3 am to "retuck" her.  Juggling three little ones, hats off to moms of multiples, I surely am not cut out for it.

    I don't really care for her style, but she was just trying to be funny. No need to take it seriously.

    I'm usually all for irreverent mommy humor, but this just had a hard edge to it.

    Her kids sounds like spoiled brats....and you can guess who made them that way. It's not my type of humor but it does remind me how difficult and thankless being a SAHM may be.  My daughter is trowing a terrific tantrum as I write this.  I cleaned up puke on Thursday and DH missed two days of work this week to take care of a sick child.  Yes, WMs (and dads) have the same issues.

    The way I read it, I got the impression she was being overly dramatic in an attempt to make the essay more humorous. I think she is a little over the top and agree that a lot of what she writes about is not unique to a SAHM.

    But it also sound like she had three kids in 3 years or less and that would make me a little crabby too.

    To me it sounds like she doesn't really enjoy being a SAHM.  
    Being a WM is no picnic either.  I deal with the same issues at home and I also have to go to work.
    I'm a teacher so I do get a taste of SAHM because I am at home all summer long with DD and I absolutely love it but everyone's different.  I'm sure this mom would feel much better if she had a full time job.

    Agree on the trying too hard to be funny...though the H calling to ask if it is 'ok if I go to the gym' right as dinner is about to be ready was quite relatable for me ;).   It hink SAH was just not what she thought it would be like, and I think a lot of ppl can relate to that though perhaps not so extremely or with her same sense of humor... on the other hand I also roll my eyes at the commenters in the blog who did the 'you should cherish every second, it is sooooo fabulous' stuff too. clearly they are just bigger people than me, b/c there are many un-cherishable moments.
