3rd Trimester

Feeling of all over fullness and tightness in

This is my third pregnancy and I didn't have this with the first two. I feel like my entire abdominal area is so full like I'm gonna burst or like the baby soo big. Not like I'm full because I ate too much. I have a constant feeling of tightness that lasts for hours. It doesn't come and go like I would think Braxton Hicks would happen, though I never had that with my first two either. It doesn't hurt but is extremely uncomfortable and irritating. It has happened before, but tonight is especially bad. Anyone have this or know what I'm talking about? Anything I can do to alleviate? If it isn't better in the am, I'm calling the MW/OB. Thanks for your time!

  • Is it tight while you're relaxing and laying down? I have irritable uterus and mine gets tight almost constantly while I'm up moving around. Ask your OB either way, I'd say

  • I get tightness in the abdominal area too, I don't know why, this is my first pregnancy, but my doc has not said anything bad about it - yet. So I would suggest talking to your doc first, because it could just be that your baby is bigger than first expected and is trying to make room. Recently my uterus was stiff, I thought it was a BHC but it wasn't, I began to gently massage the area and soon my little one moved and it softened. In my case it was just the fact I'm carrying a large baby who is trying to make room... but - as I'm 35wks+6days I'm pretty sure he wont get much more room out of me! LOL
Anyway, talk to your OB and have them take a look, always safer to check than to go without!
  • I get this too, mostly at the end of the day.  I think it's mostly because as my stomach fills up during the day, everything just gets squished in there.  I always feel much better in the morning.

  • My MW said this was most due to hydration when I mentioned it to her. Once I sit down and drink a good amount of water I tend to feel better.
  • Relax, lay down, and drink a ton of water. It can happen from dehydration.
  • Mine feels like this all the time, I drink plenty of fluids and try to eat small amounts all day, no big meals. I have a feeling it's just the way it's going to be until the end!

  • Thanks everyone. I did feel better this morning. I had a stomach bug earlier this week so I'm sure dehydration played a role. My appointments on Tuesday, but I'm inpatient so I'll call today just to double check.
