Shit my nanny/daycare/caregiver says

The woman that looks after A has no filters and is not afraid to tell it how it is. I could honestly write a book under this heading in the two weeks that I have been back to work. These are my two favorites:
1. She asked when I would get my daughters ears pierced. When I said I wasn't planning to, she said "oh, your one of THOSE mothers". I don't even know what that means!
2. Talking to A, "girl, your so clever, I don't know who you get that from!"

Anyone like to share their favorites?

  • Yikes, that would just piss me off.

The only thing that ever really bothered me that DD's daycare provider has said involved her spitting up and the provider was very flustered and upset. She has gotten so much better but DD was a real spitter and get provider asked, "what on earth are you planning on doing about her vomiting?" Nothing. She's healthy and growing perfect, the only thing I do about it is clean it up and move on. It's just normal spitting, not vomit.

  • Like you said time will tell - I am not Kirstin. I'm ashamed to say I also still screw up affect and effect!

I have a related one - my nanny thinks that the reason my daughter has reflux is because I feed her too much! I'm very sensitive about her reflux, I had to bite my tongue HARD that day!
  • I'm turning this one around, because I'm a nanny. So mine is "shit the mom I work for says."
On a 90+ degree day in August (and we were all very pregnant then!) she refuses to turn on the AC in her house and says "Well, it'll cool off soon after I come home so I'm not paying for it to e on all day." Never mind her three kids or very pregnant nanny that will be there all day.

There's that YOUR instead of you're...

Honestly, I take no issue with you coming back Kirsten. But just own it.

Idk, she doesn't sound like her. But anything is possible I guess. The time IS incredibly fishy.

  • Well, I'll give you a chance...

I hate when people say something judgy, like the ear piercing comment.  Not all women like having pierced ears, so I'm waiting until DD asks to get hers done as well.

I'm willing to bet she meant that she isn't clever and the baby doesn't pick up cleverness from hanging out with her; you're reading too much into it.

Effect is usually a noun, while affect is usually a verb.  i.e. How will the special effects (noun) affect (verb) the movie-goer's experience?

Thank you! I have to use effect and affect all of the time too, It just won't stick. I always question whether I have used the correct one.

I know I annoy her too - I think we rub each other the wrong way, but she seems to adore A and that is the most important thing. I was late my first week, which is really bad etiquette. Crazy weather was to blame but I still felt awful!
  • My older daughter got her ears done when she turned 7. We let her chose on her own.
