So I totally forgot that our rent check had not been cashed this month (they always do their bookwork by the 6th of the month and they told us that when we signed out lease.) ?So they cashed it yesterday and it went through last night. ?Of course we finished Christmas Shopping this past weekend and those purchases cleared our account as well. ?So everything went through at once and we are a TON of money in the hole. ?I can not believe I did that!! ?I am a total mess right now. ?We were tight on money as it was, just scrapping by but now it is bad. ?Especially once all of the over draft fees go through (over $700!!!) it will be really bad. ?I already called the bank to see if they can do anything about the fees and they said that they could not do anything about pending fees but once they have posted to call back and see what they can do. ?I don't know if they will be able to help us out though since it was totally my fault but I gotta try something. ?I don't know what else to do. ?I am just in shock right now and bawling as I type this. ?I called DH to let him know and luckily he did not chew me out or anything as I don't think I would have been able to handle that but I could tell by his voice how dissapointed he is. ?And on top of everything Garretts birthday is Sunday and I needed to get somethings for his party. ?But that is not happening now. ?I don't know why I am posting this on here. ?I guess I just needed to get everything out somewhere. ?We are supposed to drive up home tomorrow morning to spend the holidays with the family and DH has the next week and a half off so this was supposed to be a happy time and I ruined it. ?Luckily I filled the tank with gas yesterday (before I knew we would have this problem obviously) so we will just head up on that tank of gas and not buy anything else until Friday when DH gets paid. ?But even with his paycheck if the bank won't waive the fees it will take most of DHs paycheck. ?So now I have no idea how we will pay rent next month along with our other bills. ?It is just one giant circle. ?Well thanks for letting me vent some. ?Like I said I don't know what I am looking for by posting this I guess it feels good just to get it out.

Re: shocked shaking and in tears
I messed up something like this once - I used the wrong card (debit instead of credit) to make a big purchase and it went into overdraft. Of course, I didn't know it and made a few more purchases with my debit card - small, stupid things like $3 at the coffee shop - that also accrued overdraft fees. Once I figured it out, I called the bank and they totally worked with me. They waived all the fees except for the initial overdraft one (and when it's like $35 a purchase, it certainly adds up).
Money mistakes are terrible - they stress me out so much (I also recently forgot to transfer money and didn't realize that my daycare lady hadn't cahsed her check and that bounced - I'd much rather bounce a bill than something to the lady that watches my kids two days a week). Try not to let it ruin your week - things will work out!
Wait-- how is this your fault? ?Didn't your apt complex screw up? ?It's nowhere near the 6th of the month. ?Also, if you tell the bank you'll close your accounts, they will most likely waive the fees. ?I am a dumbass when it comes to the checkbook, so we have an automatic rollover set up where if we overdraw, the bank automatically transfers from our savings-- maybe something like this would help?

(((HUGS)))?

I know it really sucks, but this is still a happy time-- you have your beautiful family and you get to celebrate another year with your sweet little boy.
Hugs to you! I've done something similar before and it took more than half of our rebate check last year. I felt awful! Just try to breathe!

watch how those fees go through. A few years back a bank had a class action law suit against it b/c of the way they posted drafts... and overdraft fees.
If they FIRST post the most expensive check-then the chances of more checks bouncing is a lot greater- and they can then charge you for every check after that..... If the cheaper checks went through first- they'd only be charging you for one or two overdrafts - do you get what i mean?
so if your checks come out- in order- highest to lowest- and there is an overdraft for every one - i would bring a print out to the bank and tell them that they need to take away the overdraft fees b/c what they did was unethical and on purpose- just to make you go in the hole.
if you do not have a history of overdrafts they will work with you.
This happened to me once- and they at least took away the fees.... You should also apply for overdraft protection - it's a line of credit so that if you do go over - it will be 'charged' to that line of credit.
I hear you. ?I used to bounce checks like crazy b/c bills would clear at weird times and suddenly bam! ?hundreds of dollars in freaking fees, like the PP said $35 for a $3 coffee, and MH would FREAK OUT. ?I bet the bank will work with you-- they really don't want to lose customers right now. ?I'm sorry you're dealing with this over the holidays.?
How awful! ?I did that a couple of times during law school. ?It was very stressful, and I only had myself to take care of back then. ?It made me so mad that the bank wouldn't just refuse the purchases rather than let them go through and charge the $35 per purchase overdraft fee. ?It's such a scam. ?They did take about half the charges off for me when I called, but I still had to pay a lot.
It's hard, but just try to forget about it for now so you can enjoy Christmas with your family.?
Goldie_Locks ya that is how they do it. ?They post the deposits, then they post the highest debit (our rent check in this case) down to the lowest purchase. ?So it brings on about 15 or so over draft fees. ?If they had waited and posted the check last I would only have 1 over draft fee. ?
It is not our first offense though, we have had a few small over drafts before, but nothing like this.
Thanks ladies for all of your words, at least I know I am not alone in my stupid banking issues!!!?

I have done that before. It was before dh and I were married. I worked with the bank they did not take my fees away but they did give my acct a $0 blance then on the 12th of every month they took out $60 untill the over draft was taking care of. I did it this way so I could still put in my pay checks in and they would not take most of it to cover the over draft. Mine was about $1000 before all the fees were done my pay check did not go thru so I had charges for that then it bounced 3 more times and I got a fee for every time. plus I had sent out checks for all my bills. I have still never seen the check from that lady that was going to cover all that and it was 5-6 years ago.
