circumcision

We chose to do this with our son. My SIL says he will have to get it redone after 1 year old since in her eyes he has skin that needs to come off. My nephew had to so I'm thinking she believes he's in the same boat.

  • What? No.

If they have any adhesion, (where the foreskin basically reattaches) then they may need surgery to correct it. It's not super common but it's not rare either. It's also not just something you do for shits and giggles.

  • I think I'm a special snowflake. My son had to have an emergency recirc the day of. He was bleeding heavily into his diaper and I took him to the ER. He had to be put under for the surgery and it was a nightmare.

  • I had my 3 sons circumsized and never had to redo it. I want to say I answered just because, I don't like the circumcision debate. It doesn't effect me at all if anyone else's kid does or doesn't get it done.

I didn't take this as a circumcision debate.  It sounded to me like she was trying to find out if anyone's son was having medical problems like adhesions.  I could be wrong, though.

OP, my son didn't have any adhesions.  Our pediatrician showed us a couple of things you can do while changing the diaper to decrease the chance of adhesions.
Thank you Bc&Lm......just thought I could ask a question.

I was thinking the same thing... full moon!
Sorry, apparently I offended someone and didn't realize it.

Circumcision is such a divisive topic on the boards that I think people tend to see the word and have big red warning lights go off. I will admit when I saw the thread title, I was like oh no, not again. But when I saw what you were asking, it didn't seem like you were trying to start a debate about it.

  • @EmAzeem Have you tried using a prescribed steroid cream to help loosen the skin before jumping to surgery? RARELY do kids need referral to Urology for a messed up circ. Tons of kids come in with some minor adhesions, but nothing a little TLC during baths and diaper changes doesn't fix.
  • So mister is circumcised since we are Jewish. Our mohel had my hubby do the cut. Hubby said it was easier than cutting the cord.
  • I answered for DS1 since we haven't done it for Ty yet

  • Dude. Our kids have been born for the better part of a year, this shit is old news. Do you even go here?
  • I'm upset bc I thought this thread was if we've been with uncircumcised guy? Damn it. Wrong website. :\">

I've never seen an uncircumcised penis in my entire life. Up here all the men are circumcised I think.

Penile adhesions don't always happen right away from what I understand. @kelly422 can correct me if I am wrong. And while this poster doesn't post a lot, I have seen her post here before. She wasn't trying to start a debate about circumcision, just asking about a medical issue, so I don't see what the big deal is.

I don't recall asking for your opinion. In fact I would appreciate you never addressing me, period. This subject starts debates, regardless of how it's worded, and I'm not the only one who doesn't recognize her. No one asked you if you thought this would be a debate or not, and yet here you are on your high horse named Know-It-All. I don't like you, and I would like to leave it at that.
  • My son is, H isn't. I never knew he wasn't until he told me, because his looks pretty much the same as others. Or maybe I just don't pay attention.
  • DH is not but all three boys are. He wanted them to and I left it up to him. We have no problems with them either.

As a mother of a circumcised boy, issues like adhesions are very real medical concern of mine, and probably for many other mothers like me. I wasn't trying to be a know-it-all as you claim; I was just trying to point out something that moms of uncircumcised boys or girls might not understand. I don't see why people should have to shy away from asking medical questions about the circumcision because the topic is generally considered verboten. I will try to respect your wishes and no longer address you in the future, though I'm not sure why you are so upset with me over white-knighting for this poster.
  • We are dealing with adhesions so I'm glad somebody brought this up. The doc showed us how to retract and clean the skin, but it is really uncomfortable for LO and I am really still not sure that I am doing it right. Our pedi did not seem very concerned but it definitely worries me.

I hope it heals up for your LO soon!!!
  • DS1 had a circ that looked like there was extra skin but he has grown into it.
He had issues with sensitive skin and bleeding that might have been prevented if he was intact.

    DS2 is intact.

@ Huckleberry08 - I'm confused. Your son is circumcised and is having adhesions because of loose skin or he is uncircumcised and you are retracting to clean which is causing adhesions??

I am just clarifying because if he is uncircumcised then you should not be retracting because the foreskin is fused to the head of the penis and forced retraction can actually cause harm. You don't need to do any special cleaning for an uncircumcised penis. If your doctor is telling you to do that then he is incorrect.

  • @Huckleberry08 - oh ok, yeah I was just checking. My son is uncircumcised and it's one of my fears that a doctor or healthcare provider will forcibly retract him. I've heard horror stories of improper care and improper advice from doctors so I was just double checking.

My soon is I uncircumsized and our doctor retracted his foreskin at his 6 month appt. I was ready to launch at her....

  • We had issues with DS2 circ. In Germany, retract the skin in the bath to clean it.

  • @chicagochic82, our pedi told us not to, and just to wipe/clean as is.

Oh crap! Ours said to, but she is an idiot. What is the danger in doing so?? Do you know Kellen??
I don't know specifics but I heard its painful and can get infected :(

  • @chicagochic82 Doubt you need to worry about infection. That's super rare unless there was a break in the skin and bacteria got in. When he gets older (like toddler) you can gently retract but just to clean. For now, don't worry about it! I'm sure you didn't do any harm :)
