Baby's initials?

edited January 2014 in June 2014 Moms
Hi guys, quick question and it might be silly lol. My friends are pointing out that my son's initials will be CAC! Does this stand for anything? Am I missing something? On a side note which spelling is better? Colin or Collin? One L is the traditional spelling but people tend to want to spell with 2 Ls...thanks guys!! :-)

Re: Baby's initials?

  • One L in Colin. CAC doesn't really bother me. Other than the obvious ASS etc. that should be avoided, how often are you really using initials?

Lol I did think of that @hampire but really will people think of it like that?
  • Caca...isn't that a word for poop?  So that's close...

Lol but I wouldn't read too much into it.  My husband's friend, who is a guy, has the initials PMS :)  Our baby's initials will be MRP, which makes me think of a noise that Snooki makes and honestly makes me laugh.

  • We are so set on the name and middle name is after my hubby so I just wanna know if my kid can live w these initials lol
  • My sons initials will be raw.
  • @mommyp710 - funny I dated a guy ages ago that was PMS. Caca !?! Ahh that's not good lol
  • I really wanted to name our baby Teagan if it was a girl, and initially thought Teagan Rae sounded nice. But then her initial would be TRD, one vowel short of 'turd', so that idea quickly went out the window. And no 'S' first names will be paired with a 'T' middle name for STD.
  • I wouldn't worry about it.

  • I guess I better hope we don't move to Boston lol.

Ugh, no!!! With only one "l" pronunciation rules say it should be pronounced like "colon."
  • I think CAC is fine!  My dad's initials were almost SOB, but his grandmother put a stop to that, lol!

    CHC arrived 6/2/14

  • The initials kind of sound like a cat coughing up a hairball, but that only crossed my mind because you asked.

I don't think there's anything bad about CAC. Like @lilnunz1 noted, as long as you aren't selecting names that give you initials like ASS, VAJ, or FUK I think you're in the clear.

  • Who cares about initials? How often do they even get used, all three, in life. Pick the name you want.

  • My DD's initials are APB (All Points Bulletin).  We can never do the initial stocking holders on the mantle because all of our initials spell ASS.  No matter which order, it doesn't look good.  SAS, SSA, ASS. Maybe this LO will help us spell something else.  I'm not sure what this LO's initials will be.  I'm still stressing about the stupid car seat and stroller!

  • My current favorite name for baby boy is Benjamin.  We were talking about middle names last night and my husband suggested his first name, which begins with a J.  Our last name starts with S.  If we go with Benjamin, we'll have to strike all J names off the middle name list, because I won't have a son whose initials are BJS!

  • We changed DD's middle name at the last minute so she wouldn't be KEN. You never know what a bunch of mean kids might come up with in middle school. And besides, I like having the option to put initials on things and her walking around with a backpack that says KEN would just be weird.

And I like one "l". English pronuciation rules are ridiculous and you can probably find an example for pronunciation both ways.

  • Lol ok thanks for the feedback. :)
  • Don't worry about it and I like one L

I wouldn't read anything in to that at all.  My DD's initials are ACK, as in someone types something and then adds....ack at the end...lol.

  • I wouldn't have caught onto anything about CAC unless I read these comments. I say go for it!
  • I'm in the military and use the term CAC (common access card) everyday so it sounds completely normal to me...my baby's initials are going to be BLT and I see nothing wrong with this ;)

  • Yea, I see nothing wrong with CAC. We realized the other day that one of our favorite names gave LO the initials "PCP." Starting again!

I like one "l" in Colin.

  • My initials growing up were SAC. I didn't catch much grief until I joined the military, then school age childless comes out at times. We played around with some girl names and I realized one would be MDA as initials. That middle name was was dropped. Don't need my potential baby girl's initials to represent the drug Ecstasy... But there aren't too many times when would really bring havoc to a kid.

  • Don't worry about the initials. If he doesn't like CAC when he grows up, he can just use CC. NBD.

I'll add my vote for 1 L in Colin. It's actually one of the names on our short list too. I think 2 Ls turn it into a last name.

  • I work in healthcare and we use CAC when speaking about the states child advocacy center.
  • I decided CAC doesn't bother me after all. And like some of you said, when are they really going to use initials and he can just use CC. At least it's not something obviously bad like ASS, STD, PMS etc lol. Thanks ladies! And we will go with Colin with one L! :)
  • I don't see anything weird with CAC I do think initials are somewhat important. My dad retired lieutenant form the police dpt and people called him "LT", since those were my initials that became his nickname for me :) as for our kid, last initial is "D" and DH ixnayed any "D" names for girls. Makes sense since if she took after me, she'd have huge knockers. Don't need "DOuble D" on top of that.

  • I worked with a girl who (after she got married) her initials were VAJ.

We all thought it was great, but what was best was her maiden name was Hyman... she married a Johnson. :-)
  • My initials (before I got married) were GMC, and yes, my dad worked for General Motors. I always just throught it was funny, it never bothered me.

    One L in Colin.
