Change in smell of poop -EBF

This is weird. Warning!
So my EBF baby recently started DC. Previously she stayed home with family for 2 weeks when I first went back to work.
Ever since starting DC her poop smells different. It's like way stinkier though same consistency. I pump and give all bm bottles. It only smells worse for first poop after getting home then after nursing it's back to normal smell til next day.
Has anyone else experienced this ? I'm just worried she is getting formula bottle by mistake as she didn't have this when bottle fed all day by family? And I've never heard of it changing smells otherwise.

  • I would also be concerned that she's getting formula. Do you send bottles, or bags with frozen bm? If you send frozen, is there a way you can check to see if it's being used? Do you get a daily sheet that monitors her feeding, napping and wet/dirty diapers?

If she's not getting straight formula, there's a chance they're "topping her off" with it if they think she's hungry after she finishes the BM bottle. I would definitely ask them if you're sending enough BM, to see what they say.

  • She is almost 4 months. No solids or water yet. I send pre made bottles but have several frozen bags there for just in case which haven't been used. I get a paper that says how much she eats and it really varies, I was suggested to add more oz but then she got a cold and didn't eat much at all yesterday (based on sheet) but still had a stinky poop.

  • I noticed DS's poop changed around 4 months. It became less watery and frequent (every day) and DS went to pooping once every 6 days or so (!). His poop is now more like creamy peanut butter (maybe a bit thinner).

I agree with the pp though - I would definitely investigate what they are feeding him and make 100% sure it is what you are sending.

  • Like PP said around 3-4 months DD's poop started to smell different (and also changed to peanut butter poop).

    This.

But the fact that it doesn't stay that way makes it seem like they are doing something wrong. I hope you figure it out and they aren't giving formula. I would be so pissed.
