Toddlers: 12 - 24 Months

When does the 'throwing food' stage end?

Because I'm soooo over this.  I forget when my daughter started getting better.  Ahh, to have clean floors again!

  • Are you using plates? DS was throwing foods all the time for months, until we started using plates for him.  Once he has his plate, if it's something he doesn't like or want, he'll either take it out of his plate and put it on his tray, or hand the food to us.  Whereas in the past, when we put food directly on his tray, he would just throw it "overboard" per se.

  • Same here! Our dog is getting FAT!
  • I am right there with you! It is so annoying and my little dog is getting really fat!! I also hate the throwing of the sippy cup when she is done for the current second! Its the worse when we are in the car and she wants it back 10 minutes later! AHHHHHHHH
  • Just hit 19 months. He only throws the food if he's done & getting bored. That's my cue to clean him up & move on to something else. :)
  • I taught DD to give me the food when she is done. She will only throw it if I take too long to get it (more than 5 sec LOL). It has gotten better, but she still does it.

  • DD is just getting over this now. It helped that we started asking her to hand us all of her stuff (plate, spoon, cup) after she is done eating, and to put any spilled food chunks on the plate before she gives it to us. She likes to be a big girl and see how happy we are when she does that.

  • We took my daughter to a Mexican restaurant in June and a BBQ restaurant in September.  It was like a tornado around my daughter with her throwing food on the floor--one big party.  I am just thankful when she will eat.  But when she is done and bored, she gets creative.  My 3 year old son is definitely better with not throwing food and communicating if he does not like something.

  • honestly, i would like to know too lol. although, nowadays i just let her do it, but i make her help me clean it up after she's done eating. she still throws food on the floor, but i noticed she doesn't do it as often because she knows she has to help lol.
